Salam 'Alaykum,
Yesterday after Fajr, I heard the visiting Tablighi speaker say "we should spend our days doing what the Prophet(s) did", and "the Prophet(s) used to go door to door".
But apart from visiting the sick and the disabled and the poor to help them, I have never seen any hadith telling us that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, made a habit of going "door to door" for "tableegh". Could someone provide me with a hadith which points this out?
What I recall from the seerah about the Prophet's invitation to Islam, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, includes incidents like the following (none of which involve going "door to door"):
(1) Inviting his family members to dinner, and then announcing his prophethood to them after dinner (may Allah bless him and grant him peace.)
(2) Talking to the notables of Quraysh in the public area around the Kaaba (may Allah bless him and grant him peace.)
(3) Talking to the leaders of other tribes visiting Mecca as pilgrims (may Allah bless him and grant him peace.)
(4) Sending a letter to Heraclius with Dihya al-Kalbi, may Allah be pleased with him, a companion renowned for his beauty (may Allah bless him and grant him peace.)
etc. etc.
So where is it written that he, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to go "door to door" on a regular basis for "tableegh"? I ask because we should speak only the truth about the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, especially when we are inviting people to follow his example.
Wa al-Salam.....
