Are we not allowed to have links in our signature or something?

Twice I have put one in mine, twice it has been removed with no notice.

It depends on the site plugged.

We can't really verify all the content on external sites as being correct and halaal, therefore we don't want to be held responsible for making people go to sites which can be a source of fitnah, and discussion forums where segregation is lax are particularly prone to this (NB: Goldi, we'll discuss it on MSN.). Therefore, links such as the one in your signature would not be allowed.

Perhaps you should look deeper than the front cover- that site has, mashaAllah, brought many people into Islam, helping to gain a deeper understanding of Islam, and brought together a wide variety of people, with an interest in Islam.

No forum is completely segregated, there is always an element of mixed discussion.

I am in serious shock that the link was removed. I thought this was a place to promote Islam and diversity....

I'm not saying the forum you mentioned IS definitely a source of fitnah... just that it has the potential to be one. And fitnah is something sunniforum.com is trying to eliminate from forums. The very fact that other forums allow private messaging, for example, is enough to cast a raised eyebrow, in my opinion.

Again, I'm not saying other forums are definitely a source of fitnah, but the shura here personally don't want to be held responsible for sending others to a site where fitnah can occur.

And beyond that, some (most?) would probably consider it a tad unpolite to come to a forum, and plug a different forum from day one in their signature. Allahu Alam.

Private messaging is like any other medium- it is perfectly fine until people start abusing it, and if someone was abusing it the administration would take the matter extremely seriously.

I find your point difficult to understand, because, pardon my language, seems rather bias.

I can see loads of people on this forum have plugs to their blogs- are you telling me each and every one has been checked out and certified *halal* by yourself? And exactly what method is being used in deciding whether a site is *potential fitnah* or not?

I'm not trying to be rude, forgive me if I sound so, nor am I trying to create an argument- but I fail to see how erasing the link I had placed in my signature is justified.

But end of the day, its your site, and your rules- and Allah knows best.

almost everything has a potential to become a source of fitnah... it just depends on the individual.

and i don't see the problem of having a link to another forum in your signiture... i mean it's not a competition on which is better... but a resource where ppl can benefit

ze leetle elper - PMing isn't under administrative control. That's why it's called private - mods and admins don't read it. If something illegal in Shariah occurs in PM, the admins aren't aware of it. It's like email... you and the recepient read the email - no-one else.

Khair, ze leetle elper and seven - for your comments. We came to the current conclusions based on mashwara between the shura. we'll raise the topic again within the shura and if any changes need to be made, they will be.

Personally, I quite like ummahforums even though I tend to argue with some of the posters on there. Its got a good mix of individuals but a few too many missionary types for my liking. But thats just my personal opinion .

i've noticed one of my links have been blanked out.... fair enough. although if you asked me to do it... i would have... rather the moderators doing it themselves.

also i think personal blogs would fall into the same category in which you have disallowed the link in my sig. and they should be disallowed also. justice, in my opinion.
