Default The reasons behind our actions

Ive read somewhere a short text regarding the reasons why we perform our religious deeds, but too bad i cant remember where ive read it.

It was talking about muslims and the reasons behind their actions. Some do it because of the reward they get, some do it out of fear of hell, some do it just because of the love for Allah, and some just do it without any hope for reward or whatever. And then it talked about which reason was the best...

I dont know exactly where it came from (ive read it somewhere online i think), so if any person could post something similar, i would really appreciate it.
And if he were to ask for a gentle lady in marriage, he would be refused, and when he leaves the world it does not miss him, and if he goes out, his going out is not noticed, and if he falls sick, he is not attended to, and if he dies, he is not accompanied to his grave.

    salam alaikum

similar kind of saying is in Nahjul Balaga

    Imam Ali says :

A group of people worshipped Allah out of desire for reward; this is the worship of traders.

Another group worshipped out of fear, this is the worship of slaves.

Yet another group worshipped Allah out of gratefulness. This is the worship of free men.

    here's a poem from Rabia Al-Adawiyya

    O GOD!
If I adore YOU out of fear of Hell, burn me in Hell!
If I adore YOU out of deisre for Paradise, Lock me out of it
But if I adore YOU for Yourself Alone, Do not deny me YOUR eternal beauty

I LOVE this poem. For it means a lot.

    Imam Ali says :

A group of people worshipped Allah out of desire for reward; this is the worship of traders.

Another group worshipped out of fear, this is the worship of slaves.

Yet another group worshipped Allah out of gratefulness. This is the worship of free men.

    and this says it all.
