Default Ibn Abdul Wahhabs pro sufism statement

Moving on to the Wahhabi leader Ibn Abdul Wahhab, whose followers we generally know as Wahhabis, and his views on Sufis. His son Abd Allah says, "My father and I do not deny or criticise the science of Sufism, but on the contrary we support it because it purifies the external and the internal of the hidden sins which are related to the heart and the outward form. Even though the individual might externally be on the right way, internally he might be on the wrong way. Sufism is necessary to correct it." [Ad Dia'at Al Mukhththafa Didd Ash Shaykh Ibn Abdul Wahab, P85]

    Sa!

I would like to know if this is a sahih saying, is the source reliable, is this book pro Ibn Abdul Wahhab or against him?

I just would like to have further information, if possible!

Yes, it is true that Ibn 'Abdil-Wahhab and his son accepted tasawwuf and did not object to it. This is found in many of their writings.

(Although, I do not know what their attitude in practice was towards the sufis of their time.)

The problem is, the 20th-century "Saudi Salafis" have covered up a lot of what even Ibn 'Abdil-Wahhab and his students said, so not many people know about their real view of tasawwuf, following a madhhab (the "original" Wahhabis forced the people to follow the four madhhabs), etc.

Honestly, most of the modern day Salafis really don't have that much in common with Muhammad ibn 'Abdil-Wahhab at all, except for their views on tawassul, graves etc.

I have noticed that these days, there are some salafis who are claiming to accept the validity of following madhahib and even tasawwuf, however from experience of their attitude I've seen that in practice it is mostly lip service (probably in the hope that they will be seen as more "orthodox").

from various books (you can include the likes of Ibn Jawziy & Ibn Taymiyah ) I've seen it's talks about 'extreme sufism' , now what does that imply? Allah aza wajal knows best!

Ibrahim al-Harbi said, ‘I heard Ahmad Ibn Hanbal say, ‘If you love that Allah should keep you upon that which you love, then remain upon that which He loves, and the good is in the one who sees no good in himself.”

The problem is that the vast majority of "salafis" today do not make such a distinction, rather they say that tasawwuf itself is a bid'ah.

As for the few who do claim to accept that there is a distinction between Sunnah tasawwuf and bid'ah tasawwuf, I have yet to see what they accept as Sunnah tasawwuf. Because it's all very well to give lip service to it and yet deny it in one's attitude (which is what I've noticed from them).

Yeah these dudes don't even accept Hazrat Shaykh Asif Hussain Farooqis sufism, and his is as free of bidah as you gonna get. I mean they don't even do things like Mawlid etc.

well, the argument they would give is:

'we don't follow scholars; we follow the qur'an and sunna'

    ...and 'no scholar is perfect'

Note: I am an active participant of mawlid gatherings, and feel those who don't do it are depriving themselves. However I have the utmost respect shaykh hussain, he is a true wali of Allah. I respect that people don't have to do mawlid. But go on, u know its good for ya.
