    Default Is this True?

can someone answer this i got it from another forum can anyone tell me what is the truth behind this story.

Thats a very valid question to ask.
According to Shia belief, man is solely responsible for his each and every action. Not too sure about four Sunni schools of thought, but here is one incident that I came across some time ago.

    Quote:
One day Imam Abu Hanifa was teaching at the college. Bahlool was sitting in a corner, listening to Imam Abu Hanifa's lesson. In the middle of his lesson, Abu Hanifa said that, "Imam Jafar Sadiq (who was Imam Abu Hanifa's teacher) says three things that I don't agree with.

These are: Firstly, he says Shaitan will be punished in the Hell-fire. Since Shaitan is made of fire, then how is it possible that fire can hurt him? One kind of thing can't get hurt from the same kind of thing. Secondly, he says that we can't see Allah; but something that is present must also be able to be seen. Therefore, Allah can be seen by our eyes. Thirdly, he says that whoever does something is himself responsible for it; and will be questioned about it because he did it himself; but evidence is against this. Meaning, whatever a person does is done by Allah and the person has no control over what he does."

As soon as Abu Hanifa said this, Bahlool (another student of Imam Jafar Sadiq A.S.) picked up a clod of earth and threw it at him. It hit his forehead and gave him severe pain. Then Bohlool ran away. Imam Abu Hanifa's students ran after Bohlool and caught him. Since Bahlool was related to the Khalifa, they took him to the Khalifam Haroon Rasheed and narrated the whole incident.

Bahlool said, "Call Abu Hanifa so that I can give him my answer."

Imam Abu Hanifa was called and Bahlool said to him, "What wrong have I done to you?"

"You hit my forehead with a clod of earth. My forehead and head are in severe pain."

"Can you show me your pain?"

    "Can pain be seen?"

Bahlool replied, "You yourself say that every present thing can be seen and you criticize Imam Jafar Sadiq by saying how is it possible that Allah is present, but invisible. Secondly, you wrongly claim that the clod of earth pains your head; because the clod of earth is made of mud and you were also created from mud. Then how can one kind of thing hurt the same type of substance? Thirdly, you yourself said that all acts are done by Allah. Then how can you say that I am guilty, present me to the Khalifa, complain about me, and demand punishment for me!"

Abu Hanifa listened to Bahlool's answers and left Haroun's court.

    Note:
If we are responsible for our actions and are to be punished or rewarded accordingly, then it is only fair and just that Allah should not manipulate or compel us to do things but leave us alone to act the way we see it fit, and be answerable for those actions ourselve

This incident gives me an impression that at least Imam Abu Hanifa was of an opinion that everything man does, comes from Allah. But im not too sure. May be, one of u cud throw some light on it.

Aside from the fact that I have heard the same incident only that there is no mention of Imam Jafar r.a or Bahlool and that it is Imam Abu Hanifa r.a who refutes the three questions and not the other way..

so I would confirm the source..

to believe everything is from allah is way up there with the ahlullah

totally devoid of any hubba jaah and desire
    a complete submission
even a complete denial of personal intellect and thought

    a total NAFI

    Ok

    1. the above story is cited under Shia sources, so it is by defaul biased.
    2. second citation is as under

The Young Man and The Scholar

There was a young man who went overseas to study for quite a long time. When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious scholar or an expert who could answer his 3 questions.

Finally, his parents were able to find him a Muslim scholar.

Young man: Who are you and can you answer my questions?

Scholar: I'm one of Allah's (subhana wa Ta'la) slaves and inshaAllah I will be able to answer your questions.

Young man: Are you sure because a lot of experts and scholars were unable to answer my questions.

Scholar: I will try my best

Young man: I have three questions.

1.Does GOD exist? If so show me His shape?

    2.What is takdir? (Fate)

3.If shaytan (devil) is created from fire, then why will he be thrown into the hell fire in the end? It certainly will not hurt him at all, since shaytan (devil) and hell were both created from fire....

Suddenly the scholar slapped the young mans face very hard.

Young man : Why are you getting angry at me?

Scholar: I am not getting angry. The slap is my answer to all three questions.

Young man: I really don't understand

Scholar: How did you feel after I slapped you?

Young man: Of course I felt pain

Scholar: Show me the shape of pain!

    Young man: I cannot

Scholar: This is my first answer. All of us feel GOD's existence without being able to see His shape. Last night did you dream that you will be slapped by me?

    Young man: No

Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me today?

    Young man: No

Scholar: This is takdir (fate) . My hand that I used to slap you - what is it created from?

Young man: It is created from skin

Scholar: How about your face - what is it created from?

    Young man: Skin

Scholar: How did u feel after I slapped you?

    Young man: Pain

Scholar: Even though shaytan (devil) and hell were both created from fire, if Allah wants, InshAllah hell will become a very painful place for the shaytan.

where it says that the scholar is Imam Abu Hanifa..

Nonetheless, since there is no real citation.. the story is false untill we can find the actual citation.

Regarding Decree and Free will it is in Fikh al Akbar of Imam Abu Hanifa r.a

Actions of the creation between the total freedom of choice and the absolute foreordaining:
42- ولم يجبر أحداً من خلقه على الكفر ولا على الإيمان ولاخلقهم مؤمناً ولاكافراً, ولكن خلقهم أشخاصاً والإيمان والكفر فعل العباد.
42- He did not constrain any of His creation to either disbelieve or to believe; nor did He create them as believers or non-believers, but rather as people, with belief and disbelief being their own act.
43- Allah Ta’ala knows the unbeliever, in his state of unbelief, as an unbeliever, and if he thereafter becomes a believer, Allah Ta’ala knows him to be a believer in a state of belief and likes him, without any change to His knowledge or attributes.
44- All actions of the creation of Allah, whether motion or standstill are truly acquired by them; yet Allah Ta’ala is their creator. All of them are executed by His Will, Knowledge, Ruling, and Decree.
45- All acts of obedience are executed by the command, Love, Pleasure, Knowledge, Will, Ruling, and Decree of Allah Ta’ala.
46- All acts of disobedience take place by His Knowledge, Ruling, Decree and Will, but not by His Love, Pleasure and Command.

I heard the same incident in the manner you have described and not in the manner presented in the original post.
