Question Where to obtain Fiqh of the Hanbali Madhhab?

    As-salamu 'alaikum

I have come across only two websites for Hanbali madhhab:

    www.hanbali.org and
    www.hanbalis.com

    Are there any others?

Also: Where should one go to obtain the fiqh of the Hanbali madhhab, if one lives in the West, where there are few - if any - skilled teachers.

Are there any places for brothers who are married?

    Was-salam.

Brother, if you're unable to read and understand Arabic well, you're at a loss; because most of the books available on Hanbali madhhab are only in Arabic. I have yet to see a translation of a classical Hanbali fiqh manual into English.

I advise you to start learning Arabic.

    May Allah help you.

Why the fascination? Best to stick to what is available locally; there is a huge Hanafi scholar - Imam Muhammad Fu’aad al-Barrazi - who lives in Denmark. However, good news his friend Abu Ja'far Al Hanbali of http://ukiew.org/htp/ is translating a work... I'm also trying to push him to do some internet availalble stuff. I also have heard that some sections of Al-Ghunya li-Talibin Tariq al-Haqq' [Sufficient Provision for Seekers of the Path of Truth] (5 Vols) By the Noble Shaykh Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani(ra) has some Hanbali fiqh. Hope this helps insha'Allah

    Ma salaama

Thank you for replying. I actually do know some Arabic. The BIG problem is lack of teachers.

I know who al-Barazi is. He lives in Copenhagen and has a masjid there. I used to pray there some times when I lived in Copenhagen. I don't live there anymore, though.

    Why the fascination?
Why not? I don't plan on staying in Denmark, and in the countries I consider for Hijrah, the Ahnaf are the minority. So I am thinking ahead... Also I have already been following Hanbali fiqh for a while and am satisfied with the madhhab.

I would love to enroll in a school or university and study the Deen there, but the problem is I am married and have children, so the options are limited...

    Amiin and you too.

No doubt it is a must to master the Arabic language in order to learn the Islamic sciences. But even with Arabic you need a good teacher.

I would be a hanbali as well, but there are very few resources for it in the West, as oppposed to the hanafi madhab.

    Just being curious:

What made you choose the Hanafi madhhab over the Maliki or Shafi'i madhhabs then?

Don't these schools have resources in the West? From what I have heard the Malikis are pretty organised in some countries...

The vast majority of Muslims in the West are Hanafi, and the vast majority of madaris and ulama in the West are Hanafi as well. I have never even seen a maliki in person. Shafii's and salafis are also common though.

Again, I guess that depends on where you live. I think the Hanafis are probably the largest group in Europe as well, but in some countries, like France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark (at least in Copenhagen) and maybe other countries there are a lot of Malikis (mostly Moroccans and Algerians).

    Brother Shamali,

    Try htspub.com

Don't let the propoganda of some Salafis posing as devout Hanbalis put you off. The website is great and brother Abu Jafar shows great adab and respect when answering those who pose as Salafis and is knowledgeable about the madhab.

May he be awarded abundantly and may the Madhab of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal be resurrected insha'allah.

    Wa'salaam.
