    Default Life in the Grave

Can someone please tell me more about life in the grave? I really know nothing about the subject. But is the body in the grave and spirit somewhere else or what? And I thought I remember hearing or reading about a hadith that said the soul of the believer is in a green bird in Jannah or something like that. Anyone know more info?

there is a book called "the spectacles of death" it is VERY DETAILED (to the point of scaring you into never wanting to do another sin again!) its the most amazing thing ive ever read on the subject of death, and i am convicned if you read that every morning befor eu leave your bed, youw ould like...keep your mouth shut, your gaze lowered, and your forehead against the ground.
O people who take pleasure in a life that will vanish, falling in love with a fading shadow is sheer stupidity. -Ibn al Qayyim

    Assalamu Alaykum

As far as i know that is for the the Shaheed [Martyrs] as for us our bodies will be in the Grave and the Bodies will have a Connection with the Soul, so much so that if the Body is afflicted with Pain the soul will feel the Pain.

It is the belief of the Ahl-us-Sunnah wal Jamaath that we will be alive in the Graves, The Inhabitants of the Grave's can hear what the those around the Grave are Saying and can even recognise them, The Pious will be able to Read the Quran and Salah in the Grave, and either the Grave will be a Garden from the Gardens of Jannah, or a Hole from a Holes of Jahannam [Hell]

We will also be Questioned in the Grave by the Angels, regarding the Prophet, Our Deen and Belief in Allah.

So if your going to Jahannam you will suffer and if your going to Jannah you will enjoy it? Or is it just tolerable? Also how long will be in there? I mean I know until Judgement day but how long will it seem like? Will time pass just like when your alive on earth to where it seems forever day by day?

As far as i can remember there are Narrations which affirm that the life of the Grave will not feel long for those destined to Jannah, but will feel long for those destined to Jahannam.

And here is a link for the Book 'Spectacle of Death' Mashallah there is a Copy at my Masjid it is a very Good Book!

The grave of the believer will be widened as far as the eye can see and he will see his place in paradise. His good deeds will come to him in the form of a well dressed, handsome , finely perfumed man. The believer will also be shown the fire from which Allah has saved him. The grave will be well-lit and filled with greenery, he will long to tell his family of his good fortune. The believer will sleep peacefully in his grave. The grave of the disbeliever will be constructed, he will see his place in hell-fire. The graves of the disobedient will be filled with darkness. The Prophet [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said “When any of you dies, he is shown his place in paradise morning and evening. If he is from the people of paradise, then he is one of them, and if he is from the people of hell, then he is one of them. He is told: “This is your place until Allah raises you on the day of resurrection” (Bukhaari). The Prophet [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] also said; then he (the believer) will be told: “Look at your place in hell fire, which Allah has exchanged for a place in paradise. So he will look at them both. Then his grave will be widened for him to a distance of seventy cubits, and it will be filled with greenery until the Day of Resurrection”. (Agreed upon).

There will be physical torment and punishment in the grave for disbelievers and sinful believers. The living are not able to hear the punishment of the grave. Animals can hear the voices of those who are being punished in their graves. Ibn Masood narrates that the Prophet [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said: “ The dead are being punished in their graves, and even the animals can hear their voices”. The Prophet [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] also said: “This Ummah will be tried in their graves. If it were not for fear that you might not bury your dead, I would ask Allah to make you hear what I hear”. (Ahmed)
