Exclamation Wrigleys Haram & Halal Products Alert!(US)

    Salam Alaikum

In response to a user on our forum who posted an article about how Wrigley products are haram - I decided to write to them and recieved the following reply:

    ====================================

Subject: Re: In Response to your Website Comments - Ref # 000159856A

    Dear Akbar,
Thank you for contacting us about animal ingredients and our products.
To answer to your question, the vast majority of Wrigley products sold in the
U.S. are free from ingredients of animal origin, including egg and dairy
products. At present, the only chewing gum exceptions are Extra® Polar Ice
stick gum and Juicy Fruit® pellet gums.
Extra® Polar Ice gum and Orbit® Crystal Mint contain tiny flavor beads encased
in a microscopic layer of gelatin, which is animal based. We have requested the
development of a gelatin-free flavor bead that is currently being worked on by
our supplier. Juicy Fruit Grapermelon and Strappleberry gums use shellac as a
    coating agent.
The different varieties of our ALTOIDS mints do contain very small quantities
of gelatin which is derived from pork. Gelatin does not impart any flavor to
ALTOIDS, but it's a necessary ingredient for the texture of the mint. When we
use gelatin it is thoroughly purified and dried during its manufacturing
process. Our staff is continually looking at alternatives to animal gelatin,
but at the moment we've not been able to find a substitute that produces the
same quality you've come to love with ALTOIDS.
Our LifeSaver gummies do contain small quantities of gelatin, which is also
derived from pork. It follows the same drying and purifying process as with the
    Altoids.
If your diet does not allow you to consume animal byproducts such as dairy, our
CremeSaver line does contain cream, which is a dairy byproduct. On the same
note, our LifeSaver Fusions and LifeSaver gummies are produced on the same line
as our CremeSavers, so there is a chance of cross contamination. Our CremeSaver
soft chews also contain a small amount of gelatin, which is pork based.
We hope this information has been helpful and thanks again for contacting the
    Wrigley Company.
    Sincerely,
    Ryné King
    Consumer Affairs Representative

Jazakallah khair for the info. Especially the pictures which make it alot easier to remember.

One thing though. In the email, wrigleys have stated that Extra Polar Ice is haram, however, you have listed all of the Extra products as being haram. Could you confirm please?

Chew a mint leaf. At least it'll decompose when you spit it out

Ok, I have a copy of the Wrigley's Extra Peppermint Sugarfree Gum in front of me. It doesn't contain gelatin and it says suitable for vegetarians on the back.

I think its only the Extra Polar Ice which is haram out of the Extra range

also, are the altoids candy things haraam too? or just the mints? because in the response the person mentions the gelatin is necessary fo rthe texture of the mint--the sour altoid candies dont have that same texture. but in the picture they are shown in the haraam category. im sonfused if the sour candies that come in the tin are haraam or not

I've writtent to them again to get more specific info on:

    - Wrigleys Juicy Fruit Stick Gum
    - Extra, other flavors

IF the above are produced on the same production line as the other flavors then there is chance of contamination - so let see what they have to say insha'Allah

But Altoids - yes its all haram since they clearly say that it uses pork extracts to give it its texture and are produced on the same production line as well.

but insha'Allah I will have to write further to confirm it even further if you wish.

For now insha'allah lets play it safe until we recieve a confirmation - and stick to the confirmed halal products.

PS also please read this - in specific the Question "Are our products kosher?"

    http://www.wrigley.com/wrigley/produ...ducts_faqs.asp

    Are your products Kosher?
Our products are not currently kosher certified, and we are not aware of any plans to begin certifying them at this time.

Note: Currently similar product lines have been included in the Haram category because they are produced on the same production lines - so unless we can recieve confirmation of them being produced seperately - lets keep it safe

    ----------------
So it would be good if we can "pin" it down to the exact products which are suitable for us Muslims insha'Allah

    =======================

Also I would like to ask my brothers and sisters if we can start a campaign where we write to different companies asking similar questions about their products so that we can form a list of halal and haram products for Muslims, since this is an important area that we may be eating forbidden items in our daily diet without being aware of it - even though there is no sin on a person who is not aware - but for us it would be benefical if we didnt
