Default Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Question...

Sister Muslimah, feel free to lend your knowledge in this matter as well.

I wanted to know what the deal is with Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab having the many people killed in that area whom he thought were doing "shirk" or "worshipping graves".

    1. Were they really doing Shirk, or is this the type of Shirk from the Salafi definition?

    2. What maslak were the people who were killed?

    3. How does the Ummah look at this instance in History?

    4. Is this part of reason why visiting graves and doing waseelah and such things became forbiddin in Saudi Arabia?

Brother Shaikh Muhammad didn't kill people, them doing shirk doesn't mean u kill them, for they were laymen, ignorant misguided people, you can't just kill them, you have to guide them to the truth, for they were ignorant.
So the story about him killing people just because they did shirk is false, as there were a big number of laymen who did shirk at the graves at his time, and they didn't have knowledge, even in Najd, that is why he stood up and started to speak against it and called people back to Tawheed, he sent letters to different areas in Saudi Arabia (it wasn't called Saudi Arabia at his time, as it was not united, and every area had an independent ruler, except for the haramain it was ruled through the Uthmanis).

    4. Is this part of reason why visiting graves and doing waseelah and such things became forbiddin in Saudi Arabia?
I don't know that graves are forbidden to visit, but I know you are forbidden to do shirk at the graves..if you mean specific graves, I will have to ask about that and will get you info on it insha Allah.

    Salamu `Alaykum

He was an innovator, who went to excess in his da`wa. This is clear according to the Ahly Sunnah, including Allama Ibn `Abidin who is the foremost authority of fatawa in the Hanafi school who labels Ibn `Abd al Wahab and his followers as among the Khawarij.

There was no shirk, and never was tawassul at the graves of the prophets or awliya shirk, not during the time of the Prophet, nor the Salaf, nor the khalaf. The proofs are plentiful, and the sayings of the `Ulema of the various schools are also.
