    Default suggestion for moderators

    As-salamu 'Alaykum,

Thank you for keeping this forum running. I would like to suggest a section on this forum devoted to Islamic philosophy-falsafah/hikmat. A section that looked at the various streams of Islamic philosophy (peripatetic, Ishraqi, al-hikmat al-muta 'aliyah, etc.), within the context of Revelation (the Quran) and tradition (the Sunnah), and against the rationalism and materialism that has invaded modern philosophy and some other streams of philosophy in Islamic history.

    Any thoughts?

    wa salam,
    Abu 'Abdallah

I think one of the main issues with such an area is the necessity for some degree of qualification required to moderate any discussions that would be encouraged by its formation. It's not always the easiest of areas to understand if one has not a firm grounding in the terminology and basic principles of epistemology etc used. Of course, if there were volunteer mini-moderators with some degree of traditional learning..

Imam al-Zarqani said in his book Manahil al-Irfan: 'Our Scholars agreed that if a word carries 99 aspects of disbelief and one aspect of faith, it must be interpreted according to the best of meanings, which is faith'.

I think it is a good idea, i am also currently studying philosophy of religion at A level, (now A2) and i find it really interesting and it would b good to get more of a islamic prespective on this matter aswel.

We learn about all the diff arguments for the existence of God and the others against the existence of God narrated by all the old philosophers. This includes Darwins therory of evolution. I hope the Mods will consider this because it is very interesting.

    Jazakallah
