Also has anyone heard of when ramadhan will be starting. In Bradford a lot of mosques have announced that Ramadhan will begin on Saturday 16th October.

I've got three days on my mind now. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday or Thursday could be first taraweeh.
There always seems tto be differnt start dates. It is so confusing-who are we meant to follow?
Do istikhara and go with that. Either that, or your local masjid/community - starting and ending on the same day does add to the sense of community.

The problem is my family go to most mosques in my area and it looks like there will be two start dates. To be specific the mosques are what one might label are deobandi or barelvi. I aren't into this Deobandi-barelvi split so i don't know who to follow. I am thinking of starting on the earlest date announced so that way I aren't missing out.
In most years we have had two start dates yet had same eids-at least this is some consolation.
It is so annoying that we look forward to this month so much but often it is tainted by arguments of who were wrong or right.

The method suggested in the article seems to be the best solution. Why can't we put our differences aside and unite for once.
