    Default Help in learning Arabic...

    Asalamu Alaikum Waramatulahi Warbarakatu,
As always, I pray this finds you all in the best of health and iman. This question is aimed at any revert who has learned Arabic successfully. You see, in my area there have been many that have promised to teach me Arabic, but have not delivered for one reason or another. So I bought a tape saet entitled 'Learn to read the Qur'an on your own' which was very useful as far as teaching me the alphabet, pronunciation of letters and what the letters look like when put into a word. However, it did nothing as far as vocabulary was concerned. Recently, I got together with this brother who said he would teach me Arabic in exchange for me helping him with his English. I agreed, but he has not been showing me the same patience I have been showing him in teaching English. So I've made the decision that he is not good for me as a teacher because after 5 lessons with him, all I can remember is "Lesson One" or "Aldarsu Alawalu" as he drilled it into my head over and over. He spent so much time on that, I cant even remember the actual lesson itself.

In any case, I came to the conclusion that if I wait for someone to teach me, I'll never learn, so I'm taking matters into my own hands, much the way I did with learning the alphabet. I figure if I can do that, I can teach myself vocabulary. The question is how and this is where my question to reverts comes in: What program, software, audio etc. did you use in order to learn Arabic? I'm looking to purchase one and need some kind of feedback on products out there before I sink money into something that is either too hard or simply not user friendly. Any kind of help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Walaikum Asalam,
    Liam

    assalamu alaikum wr wb

im not a revert..but my hubby is one. .. He was able to learn a bit from this bro he knew in this community who helped him a great deal in arabic.
then we were overseas for a bit where we took arabic at the Fajr insititute in Cairo, Egypt. now the books they had for that were very good.
Im not sure where you can get those books, though i think they're at some store online..i can find out and let you know insha'Allah, they're very easy.

also soundvision and astrolabepictures also have good selection of audio or software programs to learn the actual language of arabic and quran...

there's this website called http://www.reciter.org and its a quran memorizer site which my 6 year old son uses...and my younger one listens to...

you can also try taking them online if they are available..
shariah online has classes though not sure if its online yet or not... or if their arabic program is open yet or not... but you could check at their website insha'Allah.

    Assalamu Alaikum Wr Wb,

I know you've said you already know the Arabic Alphabet, but Alhamdulillah the following Arabic Alphabet tutorial will really help you and also other beginners in Arabic. Reading through most of it I found it to be brilliant and thorough, masha-Allah: Free Arabic reading/writing course - with the Shariah Program.

Mashallah... I'm not a revert but reading your post made me think of the great effort a lot of people have to go, to learn Arabic.
Something most born Muslims take for granted.

Inshallah have paitence, vocabulary is one of those never ending things but alhamdulilah it is something you can teach yourself, unlike grammer which generally requires a teacher.

May Allah make it easy for you

Pimsleur do a fairly good series of tapes that you can listen to, some are just vocab, others teach you phrases and come with books. Their a good place to start. Some public libaries have them.

As someone who has had to work at learning arabic, I think the most useful thing is to just pratice speaking with someone.

I've found the web to be useful also, Some links i've used in the past. Hope you find something useful.
