Its not a fact until proven. Majority of Muslims are in Indonisia. Mashallah nearly 1/5 of the muslim population and Shafi Madhab is the Major Madhab there and around many other areas. I personally believe majority muslims follow the Shafi Madhab.

"Hanafi" from "Hunufa'a", meaning "those who are upright" such as the original Hanif, the Prophet Ibraheem (alayhis salam) as is mentioned in the Qur'an!

Yes, seeing the title I thought this thread would contain some history of Hanafi Fiqh, the actual content didn't interest me much. May be now we can post some developement of Fiqh and especially Hanafi Fiqh over here...
