East London Mosque
As Salaam Alaikum
I wanted to know a bit more about East London Mosque, It is one of the biggest in the UK but who runs it? are they hanafi?
Im a little confused cause of some of the classes they hold and that they do Qiyam al Layl in the last 10 days of Ramadhan, also the bookshop that is joined to the mosque is a darussalam bookshop
if anyone can shed any light on this I would be very grateful

The mosque's admin is bengali jamati islamis (ie the Ikwan of the sub con), the main imam although starting of as a hanafi is just like the general salafis as he tries to mix n match etc, and this is no suprise as he has studied with the salafis. In short the mosque is quite heavily salafi influenced, however they are not as extreme as many of the salafi outfits out there.

so IFE (islamic forum europe) are Jamaatii Islami?
Also they do fiqh lessons in there and they teach works like Milestones by Sayed Qutb would it be ok to go and learn there or should I go somewhere else

No brother, learning fiqh from wahabis/'"salafis" is not allowed. I remember it was mentioned in Sunnipath too.Originally Posted by StudentofIslam
As for Syed Qutb, how can you learn fiqh from him?? He was a writer, not a scholar just to note.

Add to the positives mentioned above the brilliant facilities it has for sisters. I think thats also what the new construction will mainly focus on.
They sure need to spend some $£$£ on the reception/foyer area of the masjid though - looks too tatty!
