    Default Learning Arabic From Books

    Asalamu 'alaykum,

I know it's not the most amazing way of doing it, but at the moment -- because of lack of teachers and difficulty with my timetable -- I don't have much of a choice.

So, any advice on where to start would be good: in terms of which books to read, what exactly to start with. I know nothing about arabic at the moment, although i can read it.

    JazakumAllah khayr

    Wasalam

PS: apologies if theres already a similar thread; if someone could direct me to it insha Allah...

i think if u search it you will be able to find a lot of threads regarding this subject. And i believe most ppl start with the 3 madinah arabic books their quite easy especiaally if u dont have a teacher

Do people think that they will be left (at ease) only on their saying, “We believe” and will not be put to any test?

    You could try through sacredlearning.org:

If a person wants to measure his nearness to Allah, he should apply the following formula given by Shaykh Gangohi:

“A person’s nearness to Allah is proportional to his distance from his own ego and self [nafs].”

Link to the books at an Islamic Bookstore in US:

You'll find the same books in England as well.

    Default Gateway to Arabic Series

I actually recommend the Gateway to Arabic Series which is similar in approach to the Madinah books but are much better laid out. The course offers alot easier navigations for the lessons and exercises. For and English speaker I think it laid out in a way that we are familiar with. It's a nice workbook style series. I highly recommend it. If you are near a bookstore it would be worthwhile to peruse the books for yourself.

Note: Each book is also sold seperately.

Interesting. If you have a scanner, would you be able to scan a few pages?
    Has anyone else used them?

How much Nahw and Sarf does it cover?

Theres audio lessons for the medina books at http://www.matari.com/Arabic_Lessons/ I think someone posted this website on SF and I bookmarked it.

Also Shaykh Hussain's Fundamentals of Classical Arabic is really good and available online at http://www.sacredlearning.org/classr...abic/index.htm

Another cool website which starts right from the alphabet: http://www.madinaharabic.com/
