    Asalaam Aalikum

I do not know if i have gotten your message correctly ftp so i will refrain a little.

WHat was so special about Islam? It is the religion of truth and dawah is our duty to Allah. No light hearted matter.

I agree 100% in my mind the program makers edited the clip where "i couldnt care less" was used. I for one minute dont beleive he meant the Prophet salalahu alayhi wasaaam but i do think he meant

    Aisha and her rigid attitude.

Finally there is some slanders going round about the swaying/group dhikr/shifting in groups that the pious Muslims did in the retreat. Here is just one evidence from the Sunnah:

Imam Ahmad relates from Anas (Allah be well pleased with him), with a chain of transmission all of whose narrators are those of Bukhari except Hammad ibn Salama, who is one of the narrators of Muslim, that
the Ethiopians danced in front of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace); dancing and saying [in their language], "Muhammad is a righteous servant." The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, "What are they saying?" And they said, "'Muhammad is a righteous servant'"

(Musnad al-Imam Ahmad. 6 vols. Cairo 1313/1895. Reprint. Beirut: Dar Sadir, n.d.., 3.152)

    There is plenty more.

"so what was so special about Islam?"

I was referring to the statement of one of the non muslim participants. He didn't see anything unique in the meditations or the collective chants. To him it was the same as any other religion...and in fact he expressed his disappointment in having to make such a journey and yet get so little out of it.

I suppose a fundamental element that we'd have to admit to is that spiritual elevation cannot manifest itself on a profound level without submission and surrendering to the Lord.

Hamza Yusuf mentioned in one of his talks that he was troubled over the sincerity of love that people have for God. The non muslims are often very sincere in their love for God, therefore how can they be judged differently if they chose to please him in a manner that they do not know any better? Shaykh Hamza then continued to say that he found the answer in Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah's book entitled Jawab Al Kafi wherein it states that it is not sufficient to love Allah only BUT it is also necessary to love that which Allah loves. Hence we need to Love and hate that which also Allah loves and hates. He made the closing remark that we shouldn't be deluded and beguiled by the sincerity of those groups of people who do not adhere to the sunnah because even the non muslims are sincere in what they do, therefore sincerity alone should not be the measure of someone's spiritual status/position but that sincerity needs to be coupled with the commands of Allah (swt) and the sunnah.

Does anybody know which lecture I am referring to? Can you please help with the title of the lecture as I cannot recall it.

So can anyone clarify the type of dhikr they were doing, like the howling, is a recognised form of dhikr, as my knowledge in this field is very very limited. What they are doing may not be mainstream but it dosent mean thats its not correct. So I would like aproper clarification if possible please.

    Salam,

to my opinion they aren't shadhili-darqawi, they seem to be Qadiri Boudchichi.

Tariqa Qadiriya Boudchichiya is the largest tariqa in Morocco in our days. It comes from Amir Abdelkader's cousins, the Qadiri Bou Chich.

The actual shaykh is Sidi Hamza al-Qadiri al-Boudchichi, he is 85. His master was Sidi Abu Madyan al-Qadiri al-Boudchich who had more than 20 masters. He also met Sidi Ahmad al-Alawi and made the synthesis of tijaniya, shadhiliya-darqawiya, shadhiliya, qadiriya.
Some of the elements of the differents tariqas appears in the dhikr.

    Wa salam

I was just wondering, because I'm so deficient in knowledge in this area, what is Tariqah, and how can I find out more about it?

But within sufism itself, is this a recognised form of dhikr.

    Asalam alikum wr wb,

i thought i was the only person completely taken back by this comment of his, and not only that he went on to back bite the sister to the non muslim lady subanallah will the ummah ever be united? if the form of dhika they was doing was correct why not at least tell some hadith and so on. isnt following the way of sunnah one of the first instructions for us being a muslim affter worshipping Allah alone. this is a big matter and not a minor one.
