    Default Hijama (cupping)

I just learned about a practice called hijama or cupping. Some of the pictures looked disturbing. Does it hurt? How long does it take to heal? Does this practice really have health benefits and what does the the sunnah say regarding it?

Also, does it necessitate a full ghusl, or is wudoo' sufficient afterwards?

i had it done and Alhamdulilah it cured my backache. Months and months of doctors and a physio appointment didnt help me as much as the Hijamah.

Make sure you find someone knowledgable to do it (i had it done in London) and you should be OK inshAllah.

I've never had it done myself, but I believe the scientific rationale for it's curative effects has to do with the stimulation of angiogenesis, or new blood vessel growth in the cupped areas, which would bring more oxygen and nutrients to the affected areas.

I did a medical journal query on PubMed and, unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the articles were by the Chinese. Most entries had to do with the side-effects that usually involved the skin, such as burns and blistering.

Interestingly, there were reports of it being used for more than just back pain, but also asthma, facial paralysis, even obesity.

I've been trying to find some place in my city where I can get this done and I ran into several acupuncturists and traditional chinese medicine places that offer a procedure called "cupping". Is this chinese cupping the same thing?

Also, about how much should the procedure cost?

I do cuppiing myself, I learnt it from an Egyptian brother, who learnt it in Egypt and has been practising for years.

It has tremendous benefits and should certainly be taken advantage of, even if a person has no ailment a person should try and do it at least once or twice a year.

Women can do it if they have a specific ailment, if not then then it's not really advised, unless they are old in age.

    And Allaah knows best.
