    Walykumus salam Sister

I am not from Birmingham so I don't really know of a place, but I want to clarify with you that Deobandi and Wahabis are not the same. There is a big difference between them.

The deobandis are muslims from with in the ahla sunnah wa jama' and they try to themselves [and encourage others to] follow Islam according to the Quran and Sunah.

They like the rest of the ahla sunnah wa jama' follow a school of fiqh [taqleed] majority are hanafi, and they also follow a school of Aqeedah [majority are maturdi].

They are one of the best kind of muslims I have come across, very steadfast, and upright. They don't do takfir of everyone who disagrees with them, but refute [if they feel there is a need] in a logical and rational manner.

They are probably the best in fiqh and hadith in many parts of the world. They have the most institutes around the world, and I only know good of them. [ I am talking overall, not on an individual level] And I have spent 5 yrs in the company of the deobandi ulema. [in case you think I'm chatting :P]

I felt I had to let you know, because I have head this a few times before too, many people tend to mix deobandis to wahabis...I found this insane!

And many arab ulema [non deobandi] always encourage us westerners to study inder the deobandi ulema, since they are strong in their fiqh. [if nothing else]

BTW, you may have not even meant to catogrize the deobandis and wahabis together, but I still wanted you and everyone else who reas this to know [and anyone else who mixes the two]

    Wasslmaualikum

    Your sister in Islam.

www.frinstitute.co.uk It is headed by Allama Rasul Baksh Sa'idi, who has trained ulama in Pakistan and the UK for over 20 years. The English language component (primarily a very successful course in Fard Ayn knowledge (Aqida, Hanafi Fiqh, Tasawwuf, with introductions to other subjects) is taught by his senior students. There is also a dedicated alima course for sisters on Sundays.

Check out the website for details.

If a person wants to measure his nearness to Allah, he should apply the following formula given by Shaykh Gangohi:

“A person’s nearness to Allah is proportional to his distance from his own ego and self [nafs].”
