My ancestors are from Bukhara. Around six generations ago they migrated to Hind and settled in Ludhehana. In studying Islamic scholarship in this region, I would notice that a lot of 'Ulema were from Gujarat, Sindh, Hyderabad, Kashmir, Delhi and other regions of India, but very few were from the Punjab, let alone Ludhehana.

InshaAllah, we should compile a list of scholars from Hind and their contributions to the Islamic sciences.

I think we should also do the same for the Ottoman 'Ulema.

Brother nice to hear you're from Ludhiana. Mufti Rasheed Ahmed Ludhiyanwi and Maulana Yusuf Ludhiyanwi are two famous Ulama from Ludhiyana.

Another famous Alim was Hadhrat Mawlana Habibur Rahman Ludhyianwi, who was also known as Raees Al-Ahrar. A graduate of Darul Uloom Deoband, Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyyah mentions in him in his biography. He was the subject of the famous conversation on Tasawwuf as mentioned in his autobiography.

Mawlana Habibur Rahman was a political activist and grew close to Hadhrat Shaykh. After partition, in love of Hadhrat Raipuri and Hadhrat Shaykh, Mawlana Habibur Rahman remained in the Punjab with an aim of "keeping Islam alive" in the region. He became famous for helping poor Muslims that remained in Indian punjab and also Muslim women who were kidnapped by Sikhs during partition. He helped many women repatriate to Pakistan and others, who were in helpless conditions, he helped them morally. The Darul Uloom in Ludhyana, which was a famous madressa and a place where Hadhrat Mawlana Yusuf Ludhyanwi even studied a few yerars, after partiion was demolished. Mawlana Habibur Rahman worked to rebuild it. After he died, his son continued his work and afgter he died his grandson - also called Mawlana Habibur Rahman - is continuing the work in the Punjab. In fact he has managed to lay the foundation of the famous Darul Uloom that was demolished.

This Mawlana visits the UK each year, I know a lot of him and about him because I've sat with him quite a lot.

There is a famous story about Mawlana Habibur Rahman senior in how after partition a village of poor Hindus wanted to change religion to release themselves from the caste culture and so invited a Sikh Guru, a Buddhist Monk and a Muslim Alim to preach to them. The Sikh Guru delivered a speech for a few hours, followed by the Monk and then finally Mawlana Habibur Rahman's turn came. He took a jug and went through the crowds giving people water and then came on the stage and offered the Guru and the Monk water from the same glass. They refused (because they considered the Hindu low-castes as dirty). Mawlana then took to the chair and saying bismillah drank water from the same glass. The people saw the Guru and the Monk refusing and the Muslim Imam accepting and this touched them so much that they accepted Islam.

Salaam. sorry for the late reply - just saw the thread. I just wanted to say my Shaykh Hazrat Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali Ludhianvi (QSA) is originally from there though he later migrated to Faisalabad.

I would notice that a lot of 'Ulema were from Gujarat, Sindh, Hyderabad, Kashmir, Delhi and other regions of India, but very few were from the Punjab, let alone Ludhehana.
maybe my Shaykh makes up for the shortage
    "Our mission is three fold:

    1. The remembrance of Allah
    2. The invitation to and propagation of Islam
    3. The selfless service to creation

We are not to engage in the 4th in addition to the 3 above"

There are a huge number of `ulama of Ludhyana. They were the first `ulama to refute and make takfeer on Ghulam Ahmed Qadiyani. One of them was Maulana Sa`dullah Ludhyanwi
