But safekeeping is not a loan.

True, deposits to a western bank ARE loans. This is because they are not merely safekeeping your money. They use your money. So you are definitely loaning money to them. Thus, paying or receiving interest would be a form of ribaa in most circumstances.

Why is it that the Muslims did not create paper money?

    Salam alaykum,

According to one of Hamza Yusuf's lectures; the Muslims in the Middle Ages were the first to spur the growth and usage of modern banking system. This is because Muslims were the frontrunners for international trade, exploration and nation building. E.g. Muslims were able to obtain and cash out their cheques from different regions/countries within the Muslim lands.

Today's paper money is based on such cheques initially. So in a way, we made it the most popular medium of exchange.
This world is as if in a mother's womb. Living in the womb, if you were told of the life to come -would your undeveloped mind be able to comprehend it?
Nay. And such is the Afterlife.

    Assalamualikum,

According from what I have been taught by my teacher:

Sunnah money is described as being:

    - precious metals or commodities (in abudance)
    - intrinsic value (the value of the money is inside the money)

The functions of money is as follows:

    (1) medium of exchange
    (2) measure of value
    (3) store of value

Paper money also known as 'Artificial money' has 'no intrinsic value' . The ideal would be to deal in gold and silver, which have real and intrinsic value, possibly a duty of the Islamic state, or micro-caliphate. Paper money, on the other hand has been manipulated by certain powers to support the oppressive system of Riba.

I am in the process of preparing a reply to your query. So please have a little patience with me, and try not to confuse confidence/certainty with arrogance.

This is one of the major objectives of the work of the Murabitun. The objective is to be brought about through a number of logically progressive stages: The first is to recognise and understand what was the currency and the practice (sunnah) of the Muslims when they had the authority to manage their own affairs according to the hudud of Allah ; Next one is to assess and comprehend what is the contemporary practice, is it in accordance with the hudud of Allah and the practice of the previous generations of Muslims. - Before moving on it is necessary that our position on the above two stages is elucidated.

We have found that the practice of the Muslims, whenever they had the authority to manage their own affairs, has been to use objects with an intrinsic value as media of exchange (see WeepingCamel's post, above). Due to the nature (stability, availiability/rarity, innate attraction/value) of gold/silver the Muslims (and many other peoples) estblished these materials as universals measurements of value. The importance of gold/silver is further corroborated by Allah's command that zakat is to be paid on certain types of wealth, among these types are gold and silver.

The contemporary situation sees us move from the use of gold and silver (objects with an intinsic use value), to paper-notes that represent gold and silver, to interest baring paper notes which represent the value imposed on them by a cabal of nefarious individuals (which is haram), to electronic pulses. This process entailed moving from the halal to the haram. Thus our research and understanding has lead us to the conclusion that the paper-money whose use has been imposed is Haram.

From this position we move to the position that the third pillar of Islam, Zakat, cannot be correctly fulfilled with paper-money. Related to the arkan of Zakat is the local collection and distribution of Zakat, this requires an 'Amir. The 'Amir selects the Zakat collectors who assess, collect and distibute the Zakat. 'The 'Amir, being the head of the community who should have knowledge of their affairs, decides which classes of people are most deserving of zakat payments...There are numerous other reason for the necessity for 'Amirs in our communities. When there are enough communities established along these lines, who have united under an 'Amir and established the pillars of the Deen, then arises then need for an 'Amir of the 'Amirs, and so we go.

What I have outlined above are the steps to be taken in accordance with Islam (the outward judgements of the Shariah). Two other vital components necessary to effect the desired change is correct belief (iman) and jihad against the self (Ihsan).

Iman is important in a number of related aspects, two of the most relevant are; [1] The kuffar have derogated for themselves Allah's attributes of ar-Razzaq and al-Khaliq, in that they purport to create wealth out of nothing, and the Muslims are complicit in this - consider the implications of this; [2] We are not to refer and affairs and actions to the accident of the kuffars dominance and the widespread use of paper-money, we refer our affair to Allah. As Rumi has said, "The halal is possible, whoever says it is not is a munafiq".

Ihsan is the science of overcoming the self in order that one recognise directly Allah's action in creation. Part of this is living in a community and all this involves....

Sorry the reply has had to be curtailed and may seem somewhat convoluted...pressed for time...

    With peace

    boo-hoo! come on brother!
murabitun are giving da'wa on one area of islam only.
and everything seems to lead to that area.

if no other scholar in the world is saying what they are saying, then muslims have the right to question them.
    it's not "being picked on"

they do their da'wa, we are not that convinced certain things they say, so we question.

    Asalaam Alaykum Sister,

Out of all the Tariqahs- Shaykh Nuhs, Shaykh Nazims, Barelvi Shaykhs or Deobandi i found Shaykh Abdal Qadir as Sufi like a breath of fresh air. I respect all the formers but he has an insight none of them have.

I think it is because he comes "from the system" of Europeans and is white revert and knows the kuffar inside out. Wherease the others although good are very focused on their respective parts of the world.

in answer to us being picked on. I dont mind, it just shows immaturity of our opponents. Funnily enough, just around the time i had given Bayah quite a few ppl were clouding my judgement with the Murabitun. Riba this and deviant that etc... i knew there was something fishy about why they were trying to put me off.

As soon as i saw their literature i knew it was all unfounded and just meant for me not to see all their stuff. The truth is they do have an answer and alternative and other groups will catch on eventually. In the meantime our opponents continue to misguide and catch ignorant people in the hope they wont see our Dawah. Quite fickle really.

So dont worry, the criticism is all good and we just get stronger by the day by Allahs power and wisdom, through his Prophet salalahu alayhi wasalaam

    Yes, you should be crying.......
because apparently you do not realise, the importance of having an ameer and using dinar.

    wa'salam

P.S> I don't need any body's permission, to defend anyone, who is enjoining good!
Exactly sister and this is what i meant by their Dawah is like a sea breeze coming in amongst stagnant air.

Whilst the rest of the Muslims argue about niqaab or whether your allowed to eat prawns or not. The fact they do not have an Amir, to collect their Zakat, with Proper Zakat collectors who come round and take it in gold and silver.

Says it all really on wheir their priorities lie.

Remeber the Truthfull Abu Bakr As Siddique Radiallaho Anh waged war on those who did not pay Zakat properly to his Zakat Collectors.

Can you imagine us Muslims now in that time?

As the Rightoues Khilafas Army approaches us we say "Here have our Christian given Sadaqah Giros!!! Or hang on, we do have some paper money, we know its haram but we were too busy arguining about the fiqh of Beards. All this gold and silver dinar is too hot stuff to handle man!"

The most important fact is always put on the back burner with a "we know its important but we find it easier arguining about whether Amin should be loud or Soft, we cant handle the hards stuff" is quite ironic. All it does is re-inforce my view on my own Tariqah and proves exactly why nearly 100 years on.

Muslims still havent gained Khilafa. is it any wonder were so fickle and feeble on the world stage?

Nejmeddin Erbakan was put out of power in Turkey the day after he said to the Turkish Parliament "we will abandon the lira and re instate the Turkish Gold Dinar". It was shaykh abdal Qadir as Sufis delegation whom i beleive gave it to him. Immediately the freemasons removed the Turkish premier from power.
