What a Great Honour
by Hafeed Abdul Kader
Shaykh delivered a lecture in Urdu called Pakr ka khauf aur Bakhshish ki Ummeed (The fear of being accountable [for sin], and the hope of being acquitted), which was performed during the last ten days of Ramadhan. Here is some parts of it to the nearest meaning:
“When a person brings Imaan and thereafter carries out good deeds, then Allah Subhaanahu Wata’aala begins to put love in the hearts of people for this person. The whole world begins to have love and affection for this person, simply because he has become the wali (friend) of Allah Subhaanahu wata’aala. In a Hadith, Allah Subhaanahu wata’aala calls Jibraeel alayhis salaam (one of the Great Angels), and tells Jibraeel alayhis salaam, that I love so and so, so love him. The Angel Jibraeel alayhis salaam then and calls all the Angels and they gather, and then says Allah Subhaanahu wata’aala loves so and so, I love him, and so you all must love so and so. Then Jibraeel alayhis salaam descends to the Earth and proclaims the same whilst standing on the horizon, to the inhabitants of the Earth. Although Allah has made is such that humans can’t hear Angels and so no one actually hears this call, the ears of the hearts hears it, and this love is embedded in everybody’s heart on the Earth”.
Shaykh the added “What [evil] desires are we into? [and what have we set our hearts upon?] Are we into the pleasure of staring at the forbidden; or wanting to touch the forbidden; or wanting to commit fornication or adultery? Do we want the pleasure of consuming alcoholic drinks? Do we want to intoxicate ourselves with drugs so that we can enjoy the ‘high’ from them?
The real meaning of pleasure is attaining the love of mine and your Rabb (Allah Subhaanahu wata’aala). The Being who is independent of everything, and who is Hakimul Hakimeen (King of the Kings).
It seemed Shaykh became elated by this, and also lifted the spirit of the audience: “Can you understand the honour! When the Controller of Everything loves us He calls Jibraeel Alayhis salaam and mentions our name to him; that I love ‘Saleem’ so you love him too. What a great honour! What a great honour!! What a great honour!!!”
Shaykh once after mentioning this same Hadith said “But my friends! If when Allah loves some one, everything loves us, and when Allah dislikes us then everything on the Earth and Heavens dislikes us. Judging by this Hadith, and the state of the Muslims currently, and there seems to be a dislike, detestation, and hatred for them all around the world…
What do you think then, according to this hadith that our status is in front of Allah???!!!”
Shaykh paused here with this rhetorical question, and the packed out Masjid was so quiet that a ‘pin could be heard dropping’. It seemed everybody in the Masjid figured out the Muslim’s status in Allah’s regard. May Allah forgive us and guide us, after all who else will we complain to and to who else will we turn to?
