Didn't the prophet(s.a.w) forbid the building of structures over graves, why is it that the muslims have built a tomb over his holy grave and that of his 2 companions ( may Allah be pleased with them).![]()
Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (saws) forbade plastering over graves, sitting on them, and building over them.” (Muslim, al-Janaa’iz, 970).
My understanding is that the prophet(s.a.w) said this to prevent shirk. It is interesting that the shia's build great tombs and shrines over the graves of their infallible imams, which is in direct violation of the prophets order. We sunni's are also guilty of violating the prophets order, are we not.
