How can you tell, whether a hadith is saheh or not, by the chain narrator?
Isnt there a list, made by the ulamas, where you can read something about the persons narrating?

Akhi, there is many books on the topic of rijal (biographies of narrators) but I have not heard of any of them being translated into English. Except perhaps there is some short bios from Miskhat al Masabih for the tabieen and sahabah (rahimullah - ra) which I found online in the form of a list. Also, there is a copy of Muwatta Imam Malik which I found (you can buy from online) that includes the comments on the narrators.
Also, perhaps this page of Aisha Bewly will be useful also, I have only read one book from her and some of the online translations as the conversion from British money to my currency makes it a bit pricier.

In particular, you will want the translations of Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd and you may also be interested in "Muslim Women: A Biographical Dictionary". But otherwise you will want the Arabic titles, and I will be uploading inshaAllah some books on rijal but they are in Arabic. A brother Efendi uploaded a big package long ago but it has since expired.

Salaam aleikum
Dear brother deathpasser, could you recommend one specifik title, in english?
Could you also give me a link, for where I could make an order?

Would any one of you, recommend Tahdhib al-Tahdhib, by ibn hajar?
Where can I buy it?
Assalamu 'alaikum
If you are a begginer, you shouldn't bother with a book like that especially if you don't have a shaikh to teach it to you, even if you had a shaikh for that he would start you with a more basic book like the baya qunia.
I remember seeing a book by the Islamic text society that gave a great intro to the science.

Brother Assalik, I've sought, but I couldnt find the book, you mentioned. Could you give me a link?
Furthermore, could you descripe, what the book contains?
does it descripe the people, who were a part of the chainnarrators?

I mentioned in a previous thread that I don't have much background in 'ulum al-hadith. That particular book was recommended to me as I was skimming through it about 3 years back. I think it had an orange cover? And I really don't know where to find it.
The translation of the Muata of Imam Muhammad is much accessible and it has an intro to 'ulum al-hadith.
Sorry I wasn't much help.

Brother, I have some books of rijal but they are in Arabic (I have them online). I simply don't know of a comprehensive translation on a book of rijal, though if purchase a specific book of ahadith, than the scholar who translated it sometimes adds a commentary on the individual narrators. This was the case of the translation of Muwatta of Imam Malik (rahimullah). But that is the best I can say for in English
