is a political movement.
this isnt no wahabi bashing thread but a simple observation as i think finally for me the pennys dropped ( a term to signify "you get it at last").
That is the original teachings of Muhammad ibn Abdal Wahab was in my view from Al Khawarij. ie> I firmly beleive that he was A Kharijte. With his blantant takfir of anyone and everyone around him as a polytheist and remember with no or very little scholarship behind his belt. Even his fathers comments (reproduced on ************) confirm his unhappyness with his son and the signs he got.
So why is Wahabism political? Well if you want to change anyone, anywhere in the world, be they Sufis, tariqahs, shias, kings, amirs, (they never liked ottomans nor moghuls remember) just make takfeer of them (as per original teachings of Mohammad bin abdul wahab) and hey bingo! power of Musilms over to you. So even if you dont like your opponent, call him a "wahabi". it has so many terms, but each time it is about power. As for the religious angle well they aint "wahabi" teachings (wahabism is a political movement yes?) but they are Al Khawarij teachings. So dont say wahabism for religious context, say Al Khawarij, but for parties/peoples/affiliations/rulers who follow this teaching then the term is "wahabis". it is also more accurate as Al Khawarij roots and traces can certainly be compared to the Ikhwaan who ransacked Makkah and Madinah in the early 20th century. They were very similiar if not the same actions of the original Khawarij who did takfeer of Imaam Ali karramAllahu Wajhhu remember? They accused him of Bidah and Shirk...
Sound famliar?
barelwis, deobandis, tableeghis all do not take from the teachings of Al Khawarij but some of them do take or did take teachings from "wahabism" (to all vy for power) and Allah knows best.
what do u think?
