Default The Paper Money Thing Again

I ask that there be no debates on this thread. I want only clarification of the positions scholars hold or have held. Thank you all for respecting my wishes.

Here are the positions as I have understood them.

    (1) [Murabitun] Paper money was haram when it originated, and it has the same nature now so the default ruling or the 'asl remains that it is haram. It is however permissible in our times because of necessity.

    (2) [Deobandis] Paper money was haram (or makruh tahriman) when it originated, but because of the way it is now being used its nature has changed and hence it is no longer haram.

So did I get these positions right?

What is your source for that?

This is only what I understood from a post by the moderator Abu Hajira in another thread on paper money. Hopefully someone else with a better source will be able to clarify.

mufti taqi (db) traces the development of currency in his book "fiqhi maqallat"( in 4 vols) and states both sides of the issues, citing fatwas from as late as early 20th century, and then gives his reasoning why its okay to consider paper money as 'real' nowadays.

I have sent these books to US, inshallah when I return to US I will translate and put up a summary ( the books are in urdu). I agree with his stance , its been put in a very logical manner. If someone has these books, please try to put up the relevant article after translation.

Myself and, I dont doubt, a number of others would be most appreciative of you (or any-others) undertaking to provide us with translations/summaries of the research you have mentioned

Addressing the moderators, on matters related to the above, could you please explain/clarify why two threads relating to the opinions of certain of the `ulama of Deoband (may Allah help them) have been 'locked'? one and two

The questions that were asked are legitimate questions, that are yet to receive answers. I find no-where in the SF rules that seeking clarification about the opinions of the `ulama of Deoband is off limits. Could one of the moderators please clarify this situation, so that this moving and locking of 'awkward' threads is not seen as a means of silencing discussion and critique (clarification) of the particular views propounded by particular scholars, who are known to be favoured by the SF hierarchy.

    Thankyou.

    With Peace,

    `Umar Ja`far
