    Question Vanilla essence

    Assalam Walaikum

I was recently introduced to this issue and am quite confused about it. It is said that vanilla extract and anything containing vanilla is haram for all muslims because it contains 35% alcohol....does anyone know if this is correct? Any answers or insight on this issue will be appreciated.

Vanilla extrat/flavor is listed among haram things on www.eat-halal.com

So would that make Vanilla ice cream Haram?

it can be but i heard that vanilla extract does contain 20-40% alcohol. It's a preservative. You generally use only a table spoon in cooking. And when you cook, the alohol always EVAPORATES. So do not worry about it.

I would like to ask again whether we should avoid EVERYTHING vanilla; for example, vanilla flavored milk, ice cream, etc.

when cooking with alcohol all alcohol does not evaporate.
i once saw an experiment which proved that even after several hours of cooking a small amount of alcohol still remains.

as we know, anything that intoxicates in a large amount is also forbidden in small amounts.

    and Allah knows best.

    On alcohol evaporation:
    Sunipath
    and also fron sunnipath :

    Does Cooking Purify?

As for cooking with alcohol that is a liquid intoxicant, since the alcohol in food evaporates upon cooking, one might imagine that that removes the filth. In reality, even though there may remain no body of the alcohol in the food, the food is filthified upon contact with it and is not purified by the evaporation of the alcohol, but only by being washed.
Artificial vanilla and vanillin are ok. (check ingredients)

would it not be prudent to check what kind of alcohol is involved... Is it synthetic alcohol or it is khamr?
