Yes the Suhba was amazing, it ended soo quick : (

Sheikh Nuh spoke about having taqwa

The Sheikh told us to 'draw the line where the Prophet pbuh drew the line' He was referring to all the ahadeeth in Bukhari about the impremissibility of musical instruments' mentioning how we can find a fatwa for everything if we search long enough, we'll eventually find a website that its halaal.
[this reminded me of my bukhari teacher, he said the same, if you want to follow your nafs, you can search and find a mufti who will make anything you want halaal'

Umm Sahl stressed on [as well as Sheikh Nuh] about having husn ul khuluq. we always expect others to change, WE need to change.
Umm Sahl is funny, serious and just the best!

Sheikh Nuh also spoke about photographs, and how we can see the hikma today of the prophet pbuh prohibiting images [1400 yrs ago]. images lead to sin. This was related to a question asked about having the disease of addiction to ponography.
Sheikh Nuh said 'unplug now' if you need to use the internet for other things, get others to do it. Nothing is impossible.
with this he also mentioned ppl who have an 'adreline' addiction [i think I spelt that wrong] mentioning this is also a big problem the media is putting in us all.

And yes sheikh Nuh spoke about learing arabic. He said, we should make a plan, if you plan to spent 20 mintues a week, you will know arabic after 20 years.

Overall I would say from the little I learned, Sheikh Nuh advised us all to practise taqwa in our lives, choosing the strong opinions, rather than the rukhsas. We should aim to live a life of taqwa with a good character. A good character is dawah to others.

Taqwa and husul khuluq - this should be our aim in shAllah.

I hope others can correct me and add to the points I made.

    Wasslam

MashAllah..........jezakAllah khayren for sharing that. There has to be more that was said though!?!? it was for 3-4 days right ?

What is the meaning of 'husul khuluq ' ?

I like the advise especialy regards to music, and certainly today even using the name of islam many 'nasheed' artists can be misleading!

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

Alhamdulillah I went to the Suhba. My first Alhamdulillah.
The first time I met him 'face to niqab'
May Allah preserve the Shaykh and allow us to benefit from his words ameen.

I can see why a mureed wouldn't want to mention the Shaykh so readily; it's extremely hurtful to me if some ignoramus says something nasty about him, and I'm not even a mureed (yet) - I'm still in the process of learning about the Tariqa and need to make istekhara.

And Umm Sahl! She doesn't mince her words, does she masha-Allah.
May Allah bless her in abundance! Ameen!
Umm Sahl menioned Husn al Khulq - beautiful manners, I think it means.
She mentioned something which is a major obstacle to having a succesful family life -
that most Muslim families think it's acceptable to have VERY BAD MANNERS within the family, and then we put on a robe of good manners when we are outside.
We need to develop husn al khulq so we have good manners with EVERYONE, as Allah's Beloved (saws) said, 'I have not been sent except to perfect good conduct'

AKHLAQ has a much deeper meaning than 'manners'. We need to study it deeply, and may may Allah grant us tawfiq to practice what we learn, ameen.

I am in need of your duas.

Wa alaykummus salam wa rahmatullah brother.
May Allah reward you in abundance ameen.

There was a question from one of the sisters:

"Is there anything wrong with a woman kissing the hand of an elderly shaykh?"

Shaykh Nuh's response: "Nothing wrong, except that it's haram."

    Alhamdulillah

This may help answer some of your questions (its written by the Shaykh and is an excerpt from the book 'The Shadhili Tariqa'):

Can someone come for the suhba who is not a mureed? Listening the advice here of the shaykh, I take it proper segregation is in place between men and women. I would actually like to attend a suhba along with my wife, if only for a day. Anyone know when he is next in the UK? How is the daily program set out please? But I must say, reading your replies here, he is indeed a man of taqwa and he has given some fantastic advice. Would dearly love to see him and meet him face to face. I still cant believe I missed it. Its only this morning I saw the thread.

I would actually like to get bayt to him but I am involved in the effort of tabligh and one of his mureeds wrote here that he's not too keen on his mureeds going in jamaat. That would be a shame for. Can anyone maybe clarify it with him what the situation would be? How does one go about getting bayt to the shaykh? Last question, for now anyway, is the gathering large or small and personal?

Yes please brother Mustafa, if you could pass me shaykh Nuh's contact details, it would be much appreciated. I didn't mean that shaykh Nuh had a bad opinion about the tabligh effort, just what I was told. I ve never met him or heard him but from what I read about him, he is the kind of person who I would really like to get bayt with. I dont really have much info on the tasawwuf line but his stance on music, and especially the segregation has made me inclined towards him even more. Some of the tasawwuf lines where men and women are sitting together, freely has me puzzled and very perplexed. Nice to see the shaykhs views similar to mine.

Brother Mustafa and ohter murids, do you have alist of literature which has been written by the shaykh or even transalations which he has done of works. Im of the hanafi madhab and was interested in 'reliance of the traveller' but alas, it is more for sha'fiees.

    Looking forward to your replies.
