Some advice would be great

I am going to be a new convert to Islam. I have married the most wonderful Muslim man, who is ever so patient with me when I ask questions and try to gain understanding. But our one conflict. I have a son from my pervious marriage. He feels that this son should follow his biological fathers religion. To say the least this man does not believe in religion. I would like to teach our son about Islam. He is 11 and was raised learning a little about christainity. Any books or classes that would be helpful for him? Thank you

I would recommend Imam Zaid Shakir. His lessons are easy to find on the internet, and he sponsors special sessions during the summers for people to study the religion.

Other than that, your best bet is to find someone local who can teach you and your son. If you cannot find anyone local, then perhaps someone can teach the two of you over the phone or via cyberspace or something.

first of all would i like to say mash'allah, for you finding islam.... nice to meet other converts.... I don't know if you are aweare of why your husband says that about your son, but if you don't, here is the reason.

a moslim man is allowed to marry a woman who belongs to either the christian religion, the jewish religion or the islamic religion. Yet the woman is not allowed to marry a man who is not a moslim. This is because the children are supposed to follow the fathers religion. therefore, you're husband tells you to let your son follow his dad, cause that is the true islamic way...


Teach your son about islam and about the life his father lives and let your son decide... Insha'allah, allah (swt) will guide him....
