Title: The love of Allah (SWT) and Rasoolallah (SAW)
Importance of loving Allah (SWT) and his messenger, Rasoolallah (SAW)
Surah At Tauba , Verse 24
Quran: "Qul in kaana abaaukum, wa abnaukum, wa ikhwanukum, wa
azwajukum, wa asheeratukum, wa amwalunik-taraftumuha, wa tijaratun
tahshauna kasa'da ha, wa masakinu tardaunaha, ahaba ilaikum minalahi
warasulihi, wa jihaadin fee sabeelihi, fatarabasoo, hata yatiyallahu
bi am rihi, wallahu la yahdil kauman fasiqeen" (Surah At Tauba ,
Verse 24)
Translation: "Say (O Muhammad (pbuh)) if your fathers, and your sons,
and your brothers and your wives, and your tribes, and money that you
have, your businesses, and places where you live {the houses which
your heart is attached to}, are more beloved in your heart than Allah
(swt) and his prophet (pbuh), then wait,
Allah (swt) does not guide the Fasiqs" Surah At Tauba , Verse 24).
Allah (swt) is talking about all the things, that are most beloved to
humans.
The ayat wraps up our whole life, and connects it with the akhira.
Shaykh focuses on the relationship between these things mentioned, and
the love of Allah(swt) and his prophet (pbuh).
Shaykh says "when people are asked about things they love, they often
mention worldly things, but we should love Allah (swt) and his
messenger (pbuh). This does not mean that you don't love your sons,
but the love of Allah (swt) is the channel , which makes you love
everything else.
There is a relationship between Islam and love, Islam is the deen of
Mahaba {love} as well as being the deen of Haq.
Allah (swt) says in Surah Al Baqarah "those who believe, have much
more stronger love for Allah (swt)".
We love Allah (swt) and worship him, to please him, so we can be
entered to the paradise and saved from hell, but we also love him
because he swt is worthy of being loved.
Allah (swt) says "those people who will change, Allah (swt) loves
them, and they love him", a 2 way relationship.
Lets go to our role model, the most pious, the best of creation,
Muhammad (pbuh) ibn Abdillah, and look at his ways.
He came with deen of Haqq and used language of love. He called people
to worship of Allah (swt) , they tried to kill him and stop him many
times.
He could have prayed to Allah (swt) to destroy them, and Allah (swt)
would have listened to his dua, but he never, in Taif for example!
They are throwing stones at him, but he is making dua for them.
In Makkah , when it was conquered, all the enemies of Islam where
there, and eventually, they were all in his (pbuh) control. He looks
at them and says "what do you think I will do to you"? They replied
"we know you are an honourable and son of an honourable man". He could
have punished them for the crimes they did, but he (pbuh) said "Go you
are forgiven".
This is because it was not personal, and many after that became muslim.
Looking at the daily life of the prophet (pbuh), his neighbours were
Jewish, and would not believe. He would put rubbish on him, and the
prophet (pbuh) without complaining just ignored it.
For a few days, there was no rubbish thrown on him, and he (pbuh) goes
to find out how he is, thinking he is ill, who would do this today?
Sunnah is for living and practising! We talk about Sunnah , but don't
practise it, we are divided and have hate amongst us, this is radical,
the Sunnah is where haqq is.
We all make mistakes, and we should forgive and forget, we are human.
Allah (swt) loves to forgive, but we don't.
Imam Shafi says "don't talk with your tongue about deficiencies of
other people, because you are filled with deficiencies, and other have
tongues too, and if your eyes showed you imperfection with other
people, then shut your eyes, because others have eyes and can see your
imperfections, and live with good among people, and forgive those who
made aggressions upon you, and if they don't stop, then leave them ,
but in a good way".
A man comes to the prophet (pbuh) and holds him by the neck, and says
"Ya Muhammad (pbuh) give me and Allah (swt) says in the Quran "Don't
make the calling to the prophet pbuh like you make the calling to one
another".
Allah (swt) calls him with an honourable title, whereas he called all
other prophets by their names.
Umar(R.A) was there, and his hand was on the sword, and he nearly took
it out.
The prophet (pbuh) tells Umar (R.A) to leave him, and gives him what
he wants.
A son of a sahabi came to Ali (R.A) and said "if our fathers were here
today, how would they have perceived us?"
Ali (R.A) replied "if they saw you, they would have called you
munafiqs, and if you saw how they worshipped Allah(swt) and followed
the sunnah of the prophet (pbuh), you would have called them insane".
The prophet (pbuh) has the highest of morals, and Allah (swt) says to
him "lower your wings (be humble to the believers)".
Even in his house "he (pbuh) takes Hassan (R.A) and kisses him", and a
Sahabi says "do you love him?", he kisses him again, and the Sahabi
says "I have 10 sons but have never kissed them". The prophet (pbuh)
says, "what can I do if Allah (swt) has taken mercy away from your heart".
Look at how the prophet (pbuh) was with Fatima (R.A), giving her love
and kissing her hands.
The love of the prophet (pbuh) didn't stop with humans, he had love
for animals, plants, rocks even, and he heard them.
The Sahaba {when the prophet (pbuh) came to Madinah} said "Lets make a
mosque here or there". The prophet (pbuh) said "where-ever my camel
sits, we will make it there, as she knows". She even loved the prophet
(pbuh).
A man called "Safeena" who served the prophet (pbuh) for some time, he
went with people and rode on a ship. There were some animals nearby,
and the people on the ship got scared. So Safeena told them to wait ,
"he got up and went to the lion, and said "I am the servant of the
prophet (pbuh) etc". The lions let them go.
Uqba Bin Nawafiq went to Africa to liberate the Muslims and between
Tunisia and Egypt, there is a valley filled with snakes and animals
and called "valley of death". The people told him not to go through
it, or the army will die.
He went to the edge of the valley and said "assalamu alaykum, I am
giving you 24 hours notice, to leave the valley tomorrow, as I am
going tomorrow to give the message of lailaha illala, and anything I
see in my way, I will kill it".
The animals cleared the way for them, why?
Because they had true deen for Allah (swt) and his prophet (pbuh) and
had true sincerity for the deen.
Imam Ghazali says "there is 3 kinds of love"
1) Love for his family/kids etc {close things}.
2) People love those who do good to them, even if not related to you
3) Love for yourself {perfection, beauty}
1) If you have this love to yourself, you are wrong because if you
truly know yourself, you know you exist because of Allah (swt) not
because of you, you will realise that everything is due to Allah
(swt), and the love will be shifted from the pocket and the bank, to
Allah (swt) who is the provider of everything you have .
2) If you try to count the bounties of Allah (swt) you can never. A
man worshipped Allah (swt) for 70 years, without making any mistakes,
and wanted to die in state of Sujood. Allah (swt) ordered the angels
to take him to Jannah due to his generosity. The man said "I worked
hard, and I went through hardship and struggle". The angles, took 1
bounty of Allah (swt) which was his sight, and weighed it against all
his deeds for 70 years, and the bounty of Allah (swt) overweighed it.
The angels were then ordered to take him to Jahanam with Allahs
justice. But he then repented, and asked Allah (swt) to grant him
Jannah with his mercy. If you loved people who do favours on you, but
who is the one who gave this person the bounties, money and the job,
that he gives you ? Then who is more worthy of love Allah (swt)?
3) You love perfection and beauty, but Allah (swt) is the creator and
everything is creation. No creation has any attributes of Allah (swt).
All attributes of creation are imperfect, Allah (swt) has the perfect
attributes. If you call someone perfect, then that's an insult, cos a
mosquito can come and bite him and destroy that beauty. So perfection
is for Allah (swt) not us creation.
Love Allah (swt), love his messenger (pbuh), love his creation. And
prove your love for Allah (swt), by following the Sunnah of the
prophet (pbuh), then Allah (swt) will love you, no doubt.
If there are any mistakes in the summary, they are from myself, not
from the original lecture.
Wassalam
