Default How to make up missed fasts of Ramazan? What if you also neglected prayers...?

    As salaam alaikum

I am making intention of making up missed fasts of Ramzan. I am looking for a plan to do this.

    My situation is like this:

Since i became baligh (mature) I have missed many fasts totally. I am not sure how many exactly. In the fasts that I have kept there are 2 kinds. There are some fasts in which I have prayed all 5 prayers and in others I have missed at least one of the 5 prayers. I know approximately the year from which I have fasted all days and prayed all prayers in those fasts alhumdullilah.

My question is how should I go about making up my missed fasts.

    JazakAllah

May Allah reward all the scholars who are taking the time and effort to answer questions on this forum

You can roughly calculate the amount of fasts you missed overall. Missing prayers during a fast does not invalidate the fast itself, so don't include those in your calculations (you will have to make up for the prayers you missed, however, see chart for help).
You can then start making up for those fasts making intention of Qadhaa. (it's better to keep a chart of a sort, to help keep things in order) And also keep a few more extra fasts just to be on the safe side.

    Almighty Allah knows best.

Yes, you would have to keep one fast in place of the one you missed.
If, however, you broke the fast midway with no valid excuse, you would have to keep 60 fasts continously (kaffarah), plus the one you broke so 61 fast alltogether.
Also keep asking Allah Ta'ala for forgiveness.

my understanding is that kaffarah (60 days continuous fasting) is only due if u broke ur fast by having sexual relations during the day.

if u broke ur fast for other reasons, then u would only need to make up that day. i thought the ruling for hanafi's and shafi's was the same in this case.

    According to Hanafi fiqh:

Things that make both Qaza and Kaffarah wajib
    1. Eating, drinking or breaking the fast in any other manner e.g. smoking, etc. without a valid reason, will make both Qaza and Kaffarah necessary.
    2. Applying SURMA into the eye or rubbing oil on the head and then thinking that the fast is broken, to eat and drink intentionally.
    3. To drink any kind of medicine intentionally. (Note: INJECTION is permitted.)
