It is well known that the female voice is arousing to the male psychologically.Originally Posted by Zubair
I only know of a minority opinion in the Maliki madhab which permits listening to females singing ONLY if it is in a non-seductive non-sexual tone.
Deobandis, Hanbalis, Shaffiis, and the other Maliki position all say it is unlawful to listen to.
Maybe the Hanafis, Hanbalis and Shafiis have a minority opinion on it to.
But I think there is a consensus, or close to it at least, that if a woman is singing in a seductive sexual tone or singing sexual or seductive lyrics then it is unlawful to listen to.

2 things what bout the female ulema reciting quran, and what if the voice doesn't attract the attention of the opposite gender?

It is not permitted for men to listen to the singing or recitation of strange (non-mahram) women, whether it is with or without the fear of fitna. It does not matter whether this takes place from behind a screen, a recording, or otherwise, because it is established in the primary texts that a woman's voice can lead to fitna. As such, it may not be used in ways that could be expected to lead to it.
From the contemporary scholars, Dr. Wahaba al-Zuhayli from Damascus writes in his famous 'al-Fiqh al-Islami wa Adillatuhu:
"It is Haram (unlawful) to listen to the voice of a female, which is in a melodious and musical tone, even if it is by reciting Qur'an" (Vol:1, P755).
Thats in the Hanafi madhab, which is what you appear to be.

but what about the female ulema did they not recite hte quran in front of men when they were teaching?

You can recite unmelodiously (well, I can anyway).

Didn't the Prophet (SAWS) have a hadith when he said something about reciting the Qur'an beautifully or something?

i'd really appreciate it if sidi faraz or the halal guy can answer me also and do we no if the femal ulema said it good voice and melody?

"said it good voice and melody?"
?
The scholars are unfortunately away for a bit due to new year/holiday busyness (free time gets eaten up fast, alas).
Questions to Sidi Faraz should be directed to the sunnipath website as that is the preferred location for in depth questions.
If you look at the links in post #3, you can see the position of the hanafi school there, to quote Sidi Faraz:
Note that Shaykh Amjad Rasheed is Shafi in his one though. I'm pretty sure there was another fatwa on sunnipath indicating it was *impermissable* for a female to teach tajweed to a mixed class according to the Hanafi madhab, alas the browsing of the archive is not working for me for some reason.is not permitted for men to listen to the singing or recitation of strange (non-mahram) women, whether it is with or without the fear of fitna. It does not matter whether this takes place from behind a screen, a recording, or otherwise, because it is established in the primary texts that a woman's voice can lead to fitna. Having said that, if you look at books like Mukhtasar al-Quduri, some of the reasons that a female can speak and converse with a non-mahram male include education.
(I'm curious too though, definately ask - do they cripple their tajweed when discussing ayat with their male counterparts?)
