The twenty year period during which Sayyiduna Muawiya ruled as caliph was without a doubt one of the golden ages of Islamic history. He united the community after their civil wars and expanded the boundaries of the Muslim state. May Allah reward him.

I withhold judgement on Yazid and Marwan.

If I am not mistaken, Mu'awiya is the son of Marwan and Yazeed is the son
    of Mu'awiya.

That's right. Muawiya ibn Yazid ruled for only a few months, but was counted by the Shaykh al-Akbar as the Qutb of his time (I'm sorry I have lost the reference for this).

    wa 'alaykum as-salaam

Mu'aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan - Mu'aawiyah (radiAllahu 'anhu) was personally appointed as a scribe of the Qur'an by the Prophet (sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam). We believe that he was a righteous, upright companion of the Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam). Ahl us-Sunnah also understand that in his conflict with 'Ali (radiAllahu 'anhu), Mu'aawiyah wanted justice for the death of his cousin, 'Uthman(radiAllahu 'anhu). He made ijtihad in his quest for justice, but ultmiately, his ijtihad was wrong, and 'Ali's was right. This, however, does not undermine the piety and taqwa of this great sahaabi.

Yazeed ibn Mu'aawiyah - Ahl us-Sunnah witholds judgement on Yazeed in regards to negativity. This is because it is not the character of the pious to "curse" and belittle people. However, he is understood by Ahl us-Sunnah to have been a very unrighteous, tyrinnical ruler that killed many sahabah in Madinah. He, like all of us, will be held accountable to Allah SWT on the Day of Judgement for his actions.

    hope that helped, insha'Allah.
