    Default can we eat this?

    AoA,

once my mum was making a big dish of biryani. the colouring whihc she used for it was in container which was previously used to contain haraam sweets( it was haribos with gelatine in, we never knew it was haraam). im nt sure whtehr my mum had washed that conatiner before she used it to store all of the fod colourings in it. will this have contaminated the biryani my mum was cooking, because she may have touched the haribo container and then touhced the food colouring with the same hands whihc would have gone into the biryani and contaminated it. does this make the biryani haraam? i didnt think it was and and presumed it to be permissable to eat. also, my mum had put so much time and effort making the big dish nd we couldnt just throw it all away it would be suhc a waste.

was i right in this situation?

It would be best to avoid eating the biryani but not haraam to do so. It is only haraam to eat something if certainty is established. Otherwise, it is unprophetic but not unlawful.
Al-Layth said: "If I saw a person of desires (i.e. innovations) walking upon the water I would not accept from him." So Imam as-Shafii then said: "He (al-Layth) has fallen short. If I saw him walking in the air I would not accept from him."

    jazakallah,

are you sure about this? because i had read from a hadith that were there is a doubt concerning food to be haraam or halal, haraam will always prevail. hover, you re also of the hanafi madhab( me also) then maybe there is more than one opinion. i he read from another site that said certainty is not lifted by doubt though this concerned other things other than halaal and haraam foods e.g impure/pure? etc. personally i think it should be the same case for this aswell.

so do you think your opinion on this matter is sound? i don't mean to be pushy on you and saying that your misleading me, i just wanted to make sure.

    jazakallah.

No problem in questioning the source, it is the command of the Prophet (pbuh). Regarding the issue: I am not 100% certain. Maybe a Mufti would be of better help, as I have no qualifications.

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani. The situation was different, and this is why I cannot say my response with 100% certainty.

    jazakallah,

this scholar is reliable and ive heard of him on another website(sunnipath website), he issues fatwas. what was your situation if you're saying it was different to mine, because both the situations are concerning food to be halaal or haraam when we are unsure. arent these the same?

actually, what the prophet had said that if there is a doubt between halal and haraam foods, haraam was always to prevail( this i the prophetic view). what you said was that it is not haraam to eat food if there is doubt, but it is unprophetic which is what the hadeeth is implying. so i think the scholar( faraz rabanni) is right.

They are similar. I think it would be appropriate to apply Qiyas here but I fear a mistake on my part.

The situation was: He was answering a question about when you aren't sure whether something was cooked in oil that was used to cook haraam food in a restaurant. i.e. eating fish burger at McDonalds. It would be haraam if you know it was cooked in haraam oil. Halal if you know it wasn't. And unprophetic to eat if you are unsure.

Can we somehow get soofi saheb or abuhajira to help out?
