Could you elaborate more on the sister's experinece...obviously men and women don't interact...and you can't exactly expect the female students to have the same level of interaction as the males....why would a sister think they could have 1 to 1 meetings with the habaib?

When the habaib come here they lecture in mixed gatherings, where a sister can stand up and ask him a question directly. However, there, all teaching is done with a curtain as a barrier, and female students do not generally ask questions. Anyhow that is what the sister relayed to me, she was just suprised that it was strictly segregated (not that I am saying that is wrong or right!).

for anyone interested in tareem I think its better if you go right away. we dont know how long the fitnah of the outside world will stay outside of tareem. my own experience: Tareem is not of this world. for some reason the connection between you Allah is greatest in tareem except for the two harams. there are masajid that lock you down & you will spend ours in them without any desire to leave. most of the people are on a path of dhikrulah (90%). so for you to join in & make nafil dhikr & ibadah its very easy. you dont need to even join dar mustafa, every 2nd person is a scholar & will not charge to teach.

the time table given is not 100% correct, go to the dar mustafa website & you will find a better one.

habib has made a few exceptions & visited families & called in the woman folk to. it depends on the reason for the visit-in one case a kid was pumped by a motor cycle, the father was going back home for a back opperation, the grandmother was going back home & the wife was thinking of staying behind for the sake of the kids.

Habib umar also agreed to visit my home but we ran short of time. he agreed because my wife runs a school for kids 3-6 & teachers english/arabic reading & writting & some duas & hifdh.

My advice is dont just mix with westerners when you get there. mix with locals & all the other people around, you will have a great experience. Dar mustafa is not here for people who want to study - you can go to uni for that & get a degree or what ever- dar mustafa is for those who want to experience

it is safe but I dont know if your country would allow it. western students were told something to the effect that you go at your own risk & you always face the problem of being deported. however this is for those outside of Tarim. aslong as you affiliated with the Habaib you ok politicaly. in yemen, in general- as long as you muslim you safe. by the way if you do get kidnapped as a non muslim you not always murdered as long as you not a missionery. there was a german couple that were abducted but after they were reliesed they went back to the village where they were held captive & they live there now. if you hold western passports usualy you would be stoped at checkpoints & depending if your papers are in order or the mood of the guy at the check point you would be let by. but its frustrating to travel past 4 checks & on the last one they turn you back & then all of the sudden the ones you just past will not let you through. its always good just to stay where you are studying. Tarimis hardly know about the fighting going on around them, usualy they know somethings up because there is qunoot in salah-but thats it. there is no news paper & most families still dont have tv.

i been in Tareem for almost three years in Dar Zahrah.
it was the best experience in my life.
syukur Alhamdulillah Allah gave me the chance to live in the same place with auliya'.
the Ramadhan was really really nice, you only sleep on the day time. not for really long though, cause you trying to do amal as much as you can. and at night you will go to houses to learn kitab from hubabat..and one of them is Hubabah Nur (Habib's Umar Alhafidz wife). the taraweh is the best too! Habib Umar will lead the prayers and he will khatam on every 17th Ramadhan! but sad i only been in Ramadhan in Tareem once, hoping to go there again, InshaAllah.

when you live there, you don't even know what's happening in the world out there,
no television, no computers, no internet.
your entertainment was prayers and ratib (awrad) that you read for the day.
you life just about learning new things about Islam, people in there will always willing to teach, MASHAALLAH! all they do only remind you about Allah, and your love to Saydina Rasulullah SAW.

another best thing is when it's raining. oh, it's the best time to make duas,
you really feel Allah is there listening to you because the environment when it's raining,
everyone will stand under the rain and read one of the qasidah asking for rahmah and maghfirah.
another great majlis is the mawlid, we have mawlid on every Friday night. habib Umar and some other habib (e.g Habib Mashur) will give speech in between maghrib and isha. then we'll be reading Kahfi in jamaah.

walhasil, I'm really really really hoping and praying so that Allah will send me there. at least once before I die. Please make dua for me, thank you.
    Salam aleykum sister.
Mashallah ur so luky that you had the opportunity to study under the respected scholars of our time. My allah accept ur dua inshallah.
I plan to study at Dar Al Zahra from September 2011 to two years, would love to get some tips on yes to proceed and so on. It would really help have so many Q. Hope to hear from you inshallah
