Prayer after an earthquake

Salam!

I have a question, we suffered a small earthquake here in the U.K, Really shook my room, and after my brother read 2 nafls, and i told everyone else to read it. However i posted on a shia forum and they have a salah called Salah ul ayah after an earthquake, and i was wondering shall i just read 2 nafls or is their a special prayer(and inform my friends and family)

Im a Hanafi muslim (Deobandi, terms i dont usually use but it might make answering for you easier)

As far as I know you should prayer the Namaz-e-Ayaat after the earthquake has finished. I have highlighted the instructions below;

Namaz-e-Ayaat consists of two Rak'ats, and there are five Ruku in each. Its method is as follows: After making niyyat of offering the prayers, one should say takbir (Allahu Akbar) and recite Surah al-Hamd and the other Surah, and then perform the Ruku. Thereafter, he should stand and recite Surah al-Hamd and a Surah and then perform another Ruku. He should repeat this action five times, and, when he stands after the fifth Ruku, he should perform two Sajdah, and then stand up to perform the second Rak'at in the same manner as he has done in the first. Then he should recite tashahhud and Salam.

Namaz-e-Ayaat can also be offered in the following manner:

After making niyyat to offer Namaz-e-Ayaat, a person is allowed to say takbir and recite Surah al-Hamd and then divide the verses of the other Surah into five parts, and recite one verse or more or less, and thereafter perform the Ruku. He should then stand up and recite another part of the Surah (without reciting Surah al-Hamd) and then perform another Ruku. He should repeat this action, and finish that Surah before performing the fifth Ruku. For example, he may say: Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim with the niyyat of reciting Surah al-Ikhlas, and perform the Ruku. He should then stand up and say, Qul huwallahu Ahad, and perform another Ruku. He should then stand up and say, Allahus Samad, and perform the third Ruku. Thereafter he should stand up again and say, Lam yalid walam yulad, and perform the fourth Ruku. Then he should stand up again and say, Walam yakullahu Kufuwan ahad, and then perform two Sajdah and then rise for the second Rak'at, the same way as the first Rak'at. At the end, he should recite tashahhud and Salam after the two Sajdah.

I've just noticed you're Shia and i know shias pray salat ul ayat (a shia told me) but do Sunnis?

And whatever we pray does it matter when after a earthquake you have to do it?

Its funny i post an important question in a Sunni forum and the only reply i get is from a Shia lol!!!

I have never heard of namaz with five rakahs. Nafl namaz can have two rakah, except the tasbeeh namaz which has four. And besides every nafl is two rakahs. Right?

I don't know whether there is a prayer for after an earthquake but there is a prayer of forgiveness and since earthquakes happen where there r many sins it might be appropraite. I am not able to provide u the exact method right now as I don't have access to the relevant book but I think if you generally pray nafl or even tasbeeh namaz or recite Quran or do tasbeeh that should be fine.

If you really want to pray at times, there is so much nafl ibadah that u can do. Sometimes u want to do sth specific. I have found this to be true at times (and I am generally saying this) but at times you search so much for a specific nafli prayer that you may end up not praying at all or even praying less.

the best thing to do is recite astagfaar because it is due to our sins that such natural disasters occur may Allah save us from any future calamities ameen.

Not really, but it's proabably the best thing to do.

Put your trust in Allah, no matter what happens and you will be "ok".
