Why'd Sh Hamza Yusuf say?

Sheikh Hamza Yusuf mentioned a Hadith about shoes talking to a man and referred it to the development of nike where the shoe tells the person how long s/he has run and other such exercise related stuff.

But when i saw this Hadith, it hardly bears any resemblance to what he said:
It was reported from Abu Sa’id that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhe wa sallam) said: “The Hour will not come until the time when a man will leave his home, and his shoes or whip or stick will tell what is happening to his family.” (Ahmad).
