ANSWERED: slaughter...by women

i had a question regarding halal slaughter...can it be done by women? or does the meat then become haram?

the main butcher at the halal market by my college was out today. his teenage daughter took his place...she was very quick and efficient...slaughtering unsuspecting chickens, turkeys, rabbits and even baby lamb for customers with absolute ease and smiling mischievously (i think) at customers. she was also extremely good-looking and fashionable, and seemed to really enjoy the attention from the men

i was quite confused..are women allowed to slaughter?

Walaikumussalam,

Putting the enjoying the attention of men part aside, women are allowed to slaughter animals. The meat from such animals is just as Halal as meat from animals slaughtered by men.

Saleel for getting to it before me...

Yeah, the zabiha done in state of impurity will be valid, as the state of major ritual impurity doesn't affect the slaughter in any way. A man or woman in that state is still allowed to do zikr, which is required at the time of slaughter.
