This is horrific... how can the judges sleep at night when they destroy lives like that?

Is it forbidden to swear at God /i.e. to say 'Wallahi'/. I thought only swearing at Allah is permissible...

You misunderstand -
It is forbidden to swear AT God. ie it is forbidden to insult God.
It is not forbidden but cautioned to swear BY God - this is what Wallahi means -- Wallahi is translated as t 'I swear BY Allah' or ' I swear BY God' or ' BY God I swear' or ' BY Allah I swear' or essentially 'I take an oath BY God'....or God is my witness
The arab speakers amongst us, use it mostly in casual conversation - eg wallahi I did give money to charity...ie by Allah, (God is my witness) that I did give money to charity.
Hope this makes sense, hope others can rectify or clarify anything I've said.
As for the article -- it just breaks the heart
*every breath is a form of worship*

Assalamualaykum brother,
Swearing at God means cursing God. What you mean is swearing in the name of God. Swearing at God or cursing at God is definitely wrong. Two are different things.
As for this story, May Allah save this man. I thought the repentant person, one who revokes his apostacy would be let free. Would the man have been so adamant about an utterance that he is condemned to death? God knows what the truth of this story is.
I think instead of Amnesty and others, we need a group of Muslims Scholars form other lands and even withing Saudi itself to form a Group that would appeal to such flimsy looking cases, and try to save some lives that are needlessly shed.
It is upto the judges to decide if the witness is telling the truth and if the man did swear.
Without doubt swearing/cursing Allah is a grave sin and is apostasy(unless done by mistake) but of course if a person repents, the person is not killed.
Allahu A'lem.

Astaghfirullah, yes I misunderstood...maybe because I am not so good at English. You misunderstand -

For sure cursing God is haram.
I hope everything will be ok with that man.

Since when did a person's accusation (one who cant even be found) become enough proof?
I don't think he will get executed for this.

how dumb can these people be. i mean logically speaking if he is arguing with someone why on earth will he go and swear at allah (swt). i mean come on that is absurd. he MAY have sworn at the eyptian or even the eyptians mum but why would someone in an argument go and swear at allah (swt) surely you must give him the benefit of doubt. also what happened to having 4 witnesses.
