  1. #1

    Default Authors to avoid

I hope we dont already have this topic.

Okay, , whenever my sisters go Islamic book shopping they always come home with a bagfull of salafi books.

    So

What we need is a list of all authors whose books we should avoid.
dont wanna turn this into a debate, just need a list we can print out and take with us when we go to zam zam international

    Assalam Alaykum,

I wouldn't read Maududi (or Sayyed Qutb for that matter), let's just leave it at that. If you want a good tafsir you should goto Shaykh Hisham Kabbani's website at www.sunnah.org and goto Audio/Visual, or get Aisha Bewely's translation of Vol. 1 of Tafsir al-Qurtubi, or Tafsir Ibn Kathir, or Tafsir of Mufti Mohammad Shafii (I think his name was) from al-Rashad books.

"Khalid Abou el-Fadl" - I really know nothing about him, Shaykh Gibril Haddad calls him an innovator while Shaykh Hamza Yusuf seemed to be very praising of him (i do believe) during his Rihla series on MBC during Ramadan.

    Jazakallahu Khayrun

I think it would be better to name the authors or publishers of books that we should not avoid.

Like for example Darul Ishaat, White Thread Press, some books from Dar al-Taqwa Ltd etc.

Khurram Murad has written some nice books.
Imam al-Zarqani said in his book Manahil al-Irfan: 'Our Scholars agreed that if a word carries 99 aspects of disbelief and one aspect of faith, it must be interpreted according to the best of meanings, which is faith'.

Actually Way to the Qur'an by Khurram Murad is an excellent book.

Also Fiqh al-Imam by Abdur-Rahman Ibn Yusuf is published by the White Thread Press-- I don't think this thread is a good idea because you end up generalising and consequently missing out on some excellent texts.
‘Good and evil can never be equal. Repel (evil) with that which is better, and see how, then, someone between whom and you was enmity shall become a true friend. Yet none is given such goodness except those who are patient; none is given this but the most fortunate.’
