From looking into it recently here are the differences

    OK Stunning:-
SANHA, IFANCA (and ISNA?) (Mufti Sacha Ok's it for Freemans only at present)

    NO Stunning:-
    HMC. HMC-Canada,

    50/50:-
France's AVS don't allow but then again do for some.

NONE above however class it as haraam but makrooh/doubtful. (a number of Ulama do classify the act of stunning as Haram though)

It's a big issue of discussion at present in a number of muslim countries/ulama (and many Halal Certifying Bodies) also I think Mufti Taqi DB advised further thorough research into it (mentioned within his book on the subject)- main issue being if the animal actually dies as a result of it or i think weather stunning is interpreted as "battering" or harming the animal before slaughter ??. Malaysia which does have a good strict halal system (far as i know) allows it also but its very carefully overlooked.

Bristol University has quite an influential Veterinary Science branch which does a lot of research in such practices also possible new EU Directives on slaughtering out soon may have an impact aswell as a new study on Stunning to be released soon in summer?? Dunno if there's similar research done by muslim experts also - most probs yes?

HFA - No stunning if it kills animal - which is possibly ok - however HFA's inspections etc are very very much not existent and hardly has any, or none at all ulama involved (according to GMWA and HMC) - hence very hard to tell because they are so laxed if they really have procedures in place to check/verify if stunning actually kills or even looking at the whole slaughtering process??

To each their own judgement I guess however if such a facility/alternative exists to allow non-stunned then I suppose that's the best route to take for now is it eradicates the doubt??
