If you give bai'at to one sheikh, you should stay with him unless he commits some horrible act. It is an insult to your current sheikh to give bai'at to another sheikh, unless you ask permission of your current sheikh to leave him. You should only commit yourself to one sheikh and one Tariqa, if you do not stick to just one you will become confused. a true Murshid Kamil will not allow one of his talibs to follow another sheikh. I am a Qadri, but my sheikh is not accepting new talibs.

Giving bait to someone other then Muhammed (pbuh) is not from Islam...Your "peer" will not be your judge, and your "sheikh" already came and left 1400 ago, so follow him and stop making men and judges between you and allah...

It's not as simple as that. In addition to the reason above, there could be other reasons and the scholars of tasawwuf have mentioned them.

I think that a lot of sufis just say things like "if you leave your shaykh, you'll be doomed!" to avoid beginners confusing themselves and following their desires and obviously to keep the tariqa intact.

lool that was a funny post. well akhi am 100 mile away from any peer so hope u will not call me sufi.

AKhi u have to understand the defination of giving bayah. And u r right that prophet mohammad(sw) is our teacher. But now a days its easy to study islam under a sheikh (with evidnece).

Allah gave my sheikh a mission, Allah knows best why he does not take bai'at from any new murids.
