Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Ludhianwi, the author of several works like Ahsanul Fatawa.
And if he were to ask for a gentle lady in marriage, he would be refused, and when he leaves the world it does not miss him, and if he goes out, his going out is not noticed, and if he falls sick, he is not attended to, and if he dies, he is not accompanied to his grave.

He was the Mufti Azam of Pakistan before Hazrat Mufti Rafi Sahib (damat barakatuhum) and Hazrat Mufti Taqi Sahib (damat barakutum) were and was also their teacher.
He was a student of Hazrat Moulana Hussain Ahamd Madani (rahmatullahialay), Hazrat Moulana Izaz Ali (rahmatullahialay), Hazrat Moulana Ibraheem Balyawi (rahmatullahilay) and Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi (rahmatullahialay) amongst others.
He was the founder of Darul Ifta wal Irshad in Karachi and is considered to be one of the greatest Ulema of our times (he passed away in 2002). His Janaza was so big, the whole of Karachi came to a stand still due to the traffic.
Hazrat Mufti Umar Farooq Sahib (damat barakatuhum) is from amongst his biggest khalifahs in the West and I think Hazrat Mufti Abdur Raheem Sahib (damat barakatuhum) of Karachi is his most senior successor.
"Whoever acts upon what he knows, Almighty Allah bestows upon himthe knowledge of things not known to him"(Fazaa'il-e-A'maal, Virtues of the Holy Qur'an, Part 1, under Hadith 8)

i have met Mufti Rasheed sahib shaheed many times whilst staying at darul ifta wal irshad in nazimabad, karachi. mufti sahib was also the patron of al rasheed trust and the newspaper dharbi mumin which heavily supported the taliban and the jihad movement in general.
all the times i met mufti saheb was in his later years. he did not get involved in the darul ifta and al rasheed trust much. he would come downstairs from his room in the masjid for salaat and after salaat he would go back up.
i hardly knew mufti saheb at all but i do know the other responsible people of darul ifta and al rasheed trust very very well as i spent a lot of time with them. namely mufti abdur raheem, mufti abu lu'lu and bhai suleman. these people did not credit mufti saheb whatsoever.
from the little i saw of mufti saheb, he seemed like a very humble, Allah fearing man who would always greet you with a smile when responding to you with salaam. when greeting a lowly person like me he showed no pride whatsoever and had a beatiful smile on his face and did salaam with both hands.

i believe moulana masood azhar and mullah omar are also his mureeds. he is also my dad shaikh. he is well known in the asian subcontinent. he came to my house when he visted the uk in 1994

Asslamo Allaikum,
One of the greatest Muftees to have lived in our time and may Allah (SWT) forgive his sins, raise his status in Jannah and give us the ability to follow his foot-steps (Ameen).
