    Default Is an amir still relevant?

    Assalmomalykum, I really would like to know the views of the ahlus sunnah wal jamm'ah on the importance of an amir - you know- in the sense of a leader over the Muslim in establishing the deen. Thanks in advance.

    "Oh you who believe! Obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those of you who are in authority." - (Qur'aan 4:59)

    The Bay'at, or oath of allegiance to an Amir, is an act of power. Establishment of Amirate is the cumulative first step in the establishment of Islam. It is the forgotten and/or ignored Sunnah of the First Community and it is what will give the Muslims political strength. Withdraw your allegiance to the State and the Bank, and make Bay'at. It is the affirmation of the trust that binds the Muslims together. Without it you are helpless and alone.

    Allah gives the Amir the authority and the people under bay`at gives him the power. These people are groups of men and women who are committed to each other by their common bond to the Amir. It is our strength and our Protection. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Whoever dies without having bound himself by an oath of allegiance to an Amir will die the death of one belonging to the days of Jahillyya.

    KITAB AL-IMARA
    (THE BOOK ON GOVERNMENT)

    Number 4562:

    It has been reported on the authority of Nafi, that 'Abdullah b. Umar paid a visit to Abdullah b. Muti' in the days (when atrocities were perpetrated on the People Of Medina) at Harra in the time of Yazid b. Mu'awiya. Ibn Muti' said: Place a pillow for Abu 'Abd al-Rahman (family name of 'Abdullah b. 'Umar). But the latter said: I have not come to sit with you. I have come to you to tell you a tradition I heard from the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). I heard him say: One who withdraws his band from obedience (to the Amir) will find no argument (in his defence) when he stands before Allah on the Day of Judgment, and one who dies without having bound himself by an oath of allegiance (to an Amir) will die the death of one belonging to the days of Jahillyya. { Sahih Muslim }

    There's no difference of opinion amongst the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jama'ah that having an Ameerul Mumineen would bring nothing else but benefits and is really important. But, just like sahih baba mentioned, they differ on how to.

    Asalaamualaykum.

    In what way does having an amir differ among muslims?

    If you are serious about having an amir then whats to stop you from choosing one from among your company?

    lol Actually, I was saying the same like sahih baba, but failed to get the point over. I'm saying that the opinions differ on the method of establishing an Amirat.

    Please brother, I'm just saying that different groups have different views on when and how a Khalifat could be successful again.

    Asalaamualaykum.

    As you say that there are differences on establishment of Amirate it would be nice to know what these differences actually are.

    One can still have an amir without there even being a khalif as this is the situation today.
