as salamu alaykum
they claim to - whether they actally follow the dominant opinions of the hanbali school which are not necessarily the opinions of ibn taymiyya or muhammad ibn abdul wahhab is another matter.
that being said, most tend to say they are hanbali, but not by blind following, rather following the texts and going against the school if the text shows otherwise - thats the usual salafi response...
Yes, the Saudi Hanbalis, who are often referred to as wahabis, tend to follow the Hanbali Fiqh. Fiqh Hanbali does not stand on just one opinion in many cases (eg. witr bi salamayn, or witr bi salaman wahid etc.) Therefore, the pathless tend to get mixed among them. The title speaks for itself.

I was wondering if the classical Hanbali aqeedah regarding the sifaat of Allah is same as the modern-day Salafi aqeedah?

Jazak Allah for the link. It was very informative, especially links to Shaykh Nuh's articles.
Please do not use the term 'Wahhabi', for al-Wahhab is one of the names of Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He. If you wish to refer to the Salafis, then the term 'Salafi' should be enough insha'Allah.
The Term wahabi, over here, is being used for the followers of the Fiqh Hanbali, who were according to the ways of Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahab. If this is the case, then first off, let's start by stop calling the followers of Fiqh of Imam Malik as "Malikis" , مالك يوم الدين.Originally Posted by Xaxerian
P.S : Wahabi and Salafi are two different groups, as mentioned before.

Wahabis are Hanbali, while so-called salafis(pathless) have no madhab, they tend to follow everyone who differs with either Imam Abu Hanifah(Rahimahullah), or the schools of jurisprudence, no offense.Uh, that word has been used as a interchangeable part
Shah Ismaeel Shaheed Al-Hanafi [Rahimahullah] was the first person in the Indian Subcontinent, to be called a wahabi. Therefore, the interchangable thing is baseless. The leader of the pathless, Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan -[although, he was neither a nawab, nor was he a khan, just to add] - even wrote a complete book against Wahabism, it's name was "Tarjuman-e-Wahabiyah". It should be noted that Mr.Siddiq Hasan khan was among the forefathers of the "Ahl-e-Hadeeth" sect in the subcontinent , in his book "Tarjuman-e-Wahabiya" he states :
"Therefore Liutenent Governor Mr.Bahadur accepted the application, and an ad over the subject was given, that the Monotheists of India(ahle-hadeeth Jamaat) should not be considered as bad-thinkers for the Indian government in general, especially those, who hate the WAHABIS of Hazarah and have good intentions for the indian government, should not be called "Wahabi"."
(Tarjuman-e-Wahabiyah, Page 62)
this is just a piece of bread for the breakfast.
