sheikh ul hind ?

salam

just wanted to know who is called sheikhul hind? and who is faqiul ummah?

im confused over three individual mufti rashid gangohi, mufti hassam gangoi and sheikul hind- im confused because i keep thinking these are the three same people

sheikul hind = Hazrat Maulana Mahmood Hasan

faqiul ummah = Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi

As far as I know they are not the same person.

There are two Mahmud al-Hasan’s.

The first is Shaykh al-Hind Mawlana Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, who as you say, was Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyya’s senior. He was the first student of Darul ‘Uloom Deoband. He was later appointed as Shaykh al-Hadith of Darul ‘Uloom. His Shuyukh include Maulana Qasim Nanautwi, Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi & Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki.

His students include the likes of ‘Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri, ‘Allamah Shabbir Ahmad ‘Uthmani, Hakeem al-Ummah Maulana Ashraf ‘Ali Thanwi, Maulana ‘Ubaidullah Sindhi and of course, Maulana Husain Ahmad Madni.

He was also at the forefront of the liberation struggle.

The second is Faqih al-Ummat Mufti Mahmud al-Hasan Gangohi, who is being referred to in this blog entry. He was Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyya’s junior. He was a graduate of Darul ‘Uloom Deoband and was later appointed Grand Mufti of Darul ‘Uloom Deoband. He also had the good fortune of teaching Imam al-Bukhari’s Sahih at Darul ‘Uloom.

He received khilafat from Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyya.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai of the Ask Imam site is his student and Khalifah. Mufti Mahmud al-Hasan Gangohi passed away only 11 years ago. Check the link below for more information.

ur rite there not the same person. sheikul hind was da student of deoband and the latter was around in da 80s n was the shaikh of mufti desai

i read some where i aap beti that mufti hassan gangoi had some differences with hakim ul ummah- some thing to do with congress and muslim leauge?

Faqih al-ummah Mahmud Hasan Deobandi who took from Maulana Zakariyya Kandalwi. I think he was also imprisoned in South Africa ?
