Since there are so many good links and suggestions, I wonder if this thread could be made a sticky?
Sorry for being off-topic but can I politely ask that I read in one of the threads, you said that you believe in Allah SWT the one who sent down previous scriptures, you believe in all the scriptures including Quran being the final Book and i hope you believe in Prophet Muhammadas the the final Prophet too. Then why dont you just utter shahadah and start your life as a muslim as I fear death that can reach us anytime. As far as understanding Quran completely and then accepting, one can accept islam and study the Quran as no specific time is bound to understand Quran, the more depth we go in, more time will be sent. Abdullah bin Umar (RA) spent around 11 or 13 years to memorize Surah Baqarah alone. He memorized with understanding and acting on it. Sorry if I came across wrong in any info.

Kids love reading stories. I have some books for my son about the stories of the prophets and sahabas. He loves it. MOst parents tend to read fairy tales, fictions and other related topics to their children. Why not tell them the stories of the brave shabas, instill them with the characters and intelligence of our noble prophet SWS. I noticed that also talking to them about these helps along with reading. So as a parent I have to study more and learn in order to interact with my children. Simply reading to them doesn't really affect much as they are also reading about "other" topics in school/college, megazines, news etc..
