Default Contemporary Scholars that Salafis accept?

    As salaamu alaykum.

Do any of you know of any contemporary Orthodox scholars that the Salafis actually accept as a scholar?

I think that maybe some of them might accept Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah as a scholar, but I am not sure if it is the "Salafis" or some of the other la-madhabis that are more inclined towards the Yusuf Qardawi version of non-madhabness (if that's even a word).

If anyone knows the answer to my question, please post it.

    Jazakallahu Khair.

    Wa'salaam.

Here we are not looking at a scholar in particular, but what they say. This is in most cases unless someone is totally immersed in a certain belief that contradicts what Salafis believe in.

You have to define what you mean by Qaradawi's inclinations. Sh. Abdullah and Sh. Yusuf are good friends and they work together.

I also do not see how much to an extent Sh. Abdullah's views about taqleed are. I have heard him say different things, as well as he was the advisor for Sh. Salman Al Awdah for his Phd. in Usul al Fiqh anyway and he does not force it upon someone to follow one madhab.

I added some stuff to the post above.

I meant that the correct way is not to view the person in their entirety but actually see what they say, which could be correct or incorrect.

About certain personalities having a place in the lives of people, then this is fine, because you would go to someone you trust, if that is what you are referring to then that is a bit different.

There are many scholars that are not salafi who are respected by salafis such as Sh. Abdullah bin Bayyah as you mentioned and Sh. Yusuf as well as well as others.

In my experience, they tend to like the more modern day younger scholars... Maulana Ahmed Ali being one of them. Generally the Ulema from the previous generations they reject.

I reckon that if most of these so-called "salafees" knew what these Ulema of Ahlus sunnah wal Jamaah stood for they would not hesitate in attacking them.

Why don't you post up their names on the tibyanpubs forums or the salafitalk forums or even the gawaher forums and see what sort of response you get.
Imam al-Zarqani said in his book Manahil al-Irfan: 'Our Scholars agreed that if a word carries 99 aspects of disbelief and one aspect of faith, it must be interpreted according to the best of meanings, which is faith'.

Shaykh Abdallah is a scholar of massive proportions. he makes taqleed of the maliki school himself. although he has knowledge of all 4 schools and their respective usuli principles.

as for usul al-fiqh - i don't know about him not forcing anyone not to follow a particular school in muslim lands. in non-muslims lands, however, he permits taking usuli principles from across the 4 schools. in addition, he only uses dominant opinions from the four schools...
