    Some scholars say:
It is permissible to make use of the credit card facility on condition payments to your account is made timeously to avoid paying interest.

    http://www.askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.p...2c13c6f6335e76

This is also the Fatwa of Mufti Taqi Uthmani saheb. (Al Balagh monthly)

The Islamic Fiqh Academy of India ruled that to get a credit card is not permissible because the transaction is an interest based one even though one may save himself from the interest. They say Halal and Haram is based on the transaction and this transaction is interest based. (Bank se jaari hone wale Mukhtalif card ke shari Ahkaam, Islamic Fiqh Academy 2007)

Mufti Taqi Uthmani says Credit card has become a necessity without which many transactions cannot be made therefore it will be permissible to use it on the condition that the payments are made before the due date to avoid interest.

    And Allah knows best.

    JazakAllahu Khairan for your reply.

What about school? I currently attend Phoenix University, and I had to take out students loans in order to pay for school...they charge interest, and a large amount at that.

Can you tell me the ruling on that please?

Jazakallah for your quick reply, though i had wished for concrete authenticity as the question was raised by a non-muslim, as he is too inquisitive.

His attitude is very tauntingly and is very much friends with some groups of 'Shia', also he has recently raised a question to a fatwa by deoband on non-muslim marriage to muslim (marrying on condition of becoming muslim) as declared by the fatwa illegal.

but Alhamdulillah i hope it will suffice to show him that it is permissible.

    Jazakallah once again

    CreditCards
Knowing you have a Sharia credit card? Priceless

The UK's first sharia-compliant prepaid MasterCard was launched today.

The Cordoba Gold MasterCard does not charge or receive interest as this is in direct conflict with sharia Law.

The company also donates at least 10% of its profits to registered charities in the UK and abroad.

A company spokesman said: "Because this is a prepaid card, the customer pays no interest on their balance.

"The difference with this card is that Cordoba Financial Group does not earn any interest on the balance either.

"Normally when someone puts money on a prepaid card the company that issues the card will earn interest on the balance until the person spends it.

"This is not the case with Cordoba, as you can neither earn nor pay interest under sharia law."

The Cordoba Gold card is available to UK residents aged 18 and over, and is being launched in London.

The UK's Muslim population totals about two million and fully sharia-compliant banks have more than 30,000 customers across the UK.

    http://www.deeneislam.com/ur/main.php?CID=83

Mufti saahibaan gives permission to use credit cards only if it becomes v.necessary to have it and that one keep care that he do not give interest amount by paying late otherwise it is impermissible to use it.
atleast in pakistan mostly one can can live without it, its not necessary until one willingly becomes its dependent.

    Very interesting.

I fail to see a significant difference between Charge cards and credit cards in the Fatwa.
What makes credit cards haram and charge cards halal?

    Anyone care to explain?
Sahabah رضي الله عنهم would cling fast to the Sunnah, on account of it being Sunnah, while we discard the Sunnah, on account of it being (just) Sunnah!

in credit cards we get some money in advance and we have to make payments monthly, if we dont pay on time, we have pay them some extra amount (or interest)

in debit cards we have the money, which we put into it, i.e we get the money which we first credit into the account, so we dont have to pay anything and nor we get anything extra for the money we have in debit card
