Anyone else better than pious islamic scholar?

I would like to know the description of a person (his habits/profession/characteristic) who is equivalent or of higher status in hereafter than a pious Islamic scholar (Hafidh of Quran and Imam in a masjid who guides many people to Islamic way of life)?

If the answer is "none", does that mean I and every muslim should make effort in life to become an islamic scholar so that they are beneficial to the society and attain higher ranks in hearafter?.... If everyone aims for that what about people who are involved in business and politics who provide service and keep things in order (but don't get to do much other than obligatory acts)?... are they never going to be higher than a pious islamic scholar?

(sorry I have many questions but I thought someone with clear understanding might help me)

Being a scholar doesnt make one pious nor does being a scholar make one higher than another person.

I see today that many muslims follow their scholars the same way as do other faiths do with their preists and monks etc and this can be dangerous!.

My intention to ask this question was to decide on the best career path for rest of my life. I meant Scholar = "Learned person who is Imam of Masjid".

I understand that not all scholars are pious but I was pointing towards scholars who are pious (both present and previous generations).

I also realize that being religious and pious is very important for scholars and everyone else, which means ...

Businessman + pious
Teacher + pious
Doctor + pious
Attorney + pious etc..

But a scholar is more beneficial because they are helping for the hearafter but other professions are for this worldly life.

Does this make pious scholars in higher ranks in hearaftere? ()

Since you asked of a "pious scholar" it would mean he is not only an Alim rather an Amil on the ilm as well.

As a thumb rule, know that Alim is a higher rank than a layman. but this alim is the one who also practices on what he has learnt. If these two qualities are together then he is definitly better than layman.. for he is the heir of Rasulullah

A scholar may be pious and learns the deen but that may be it, then there is a layman who has less knowledge but has the FIKR/WORRY of the ummah and spends his entire life sacrificing everything for the deen of Allah so much so that his grave is on the other side of the world. ( This has happened by the way)

The point here, is that only Allah knows the status of an individual. That doesn't mean we rest on our laurels but rather aim for perfection. Being a scholar is the thing all muslims should be aiming for as well as wordly qualifications, as hard as this is. However, when you combine this knowledge with fikr/worry for the ummah and sacrifice, then that individual is truly blessed in the hereafter.

someone who has endured great haalaats with sabr and without being fazed ..his /her status becomes greater than aalims

the aql intelligence is opened like no other and the connection with allah becomes very personal

aalims read and memorize kitaabs

for eg..the brothers in guantanamo ..can anyone say their status in front of allah is less than aalims or less than those who have spent 1 year in jamaat

can i year in jamaat even be compared to 1 month in guantanamo

pious aalim would be the one who practices.. this is different than your normal day hifz alim.. both should not be seen in the same category. The mujahada of an alim is pretty severe and the bounties attach to such alim are unmatched.

this does not lower the level of shuhada and mujahideen one bit. Each cherishes his own virtue.. a trusworthy businessman is in the same ranks as the shuhada..

Thus when the brother asked about "pious scholar" then one has to say a practicing god fearing alim will always be higher than a practicing god fearing non alim.

Very true, this is what I was concerned about people going through hardship in various parts of the world and what their reward is going to be in hereafter.

With regard to my original question as to the choosing of profession, I have following to say (which I realized after posting my question):

I think No one is better than a pious scholar who goes through hardship to uphold Islam and help others. The reason I feel is because, being a person in limelight of society may cause a person to feel superior and he has to lead a very careful life as there lies a huge responsibility for the person’s and Islam's reputation. These kinds of tests are not borne by people of other professions. Scholar will be in difficult tests and if they handle it well with the help of Allah, it will lead them in higher ranks.
