Until a group of weathly muslims gets together and decides to sponsor lectures and books like the ones put out by Sh. Hamza et al, they have to charge those prices to break even.
There are a number of increadibly beneficial books out there that are out of print, like Agenda to Change our Condition and Content of Character, that they cannot afford to reprint. Ditto for CD series.
These men aren't getting rich. Imam Zaid Shakir came to my town a few months ago, on his own dime, to put on a program. The $40 for the 2 day event was suppose to reimburse his expenses. Unfortunately, not as many people came as we had expected, so he actually lost money coming to give us the benefit of his knowledge.
It would be nice if these items were cheaper (heck, $46 is a lot for me too, and I'm here in the US), but they can't create something out of nothing.
By the way, I do have the CD program in question. In addition to excellent stuff by Sh. Hamza, it also has lectures by Dr. Umar Faruq. I wish there was more of his work available.
